Rumor has it that the Galaxy S6 may have just received its first software update following the release of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

News about the update was revealed by SamMobile, which got the tip from one of its followers on Twitter. According to the tipster, the update was first seen in France and has the size of 230MB with the build of G920FXXU2BOG8.

While there's a description that goes with the update, it somehow uses the same vague tone that is usually heard from Samsung whenever the company announces something new.

"A software update can include, but is not limited to: device stability improvements, bug fixes; new and/or enhanced features; further improvements to performance. To get the best from your device, please keep your phone up to date and regularly check for software updates."

One of the major issues that users of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been complaining about Android 5.1.1 is battery life. The reason could be the new S6's smaller battery size of 2550mAh compared to its older sibling's 2800mAh battery. Samsung may have decided to reduce the battery size a bit in order to come up with a slimmer phone that places more emphasis on design over functionality. Moreover, the S6's battery is unremovable, which has caused a huge disappointment to Samsung fans.

The latest software update is currently not available in KIES or in any other region. However, it is highly likely that the latest build will roll out to other countries in Europe following its initial release in France.

The roll out of Android 5.1.1 to Samsung devices is said to come in phases, and not all devices will get the update at a single time. Apart from the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, devices such as the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 4, and the Note Edge are also in line to receive the latest Android OS. The OS' estimated time of arrival will depend on the phone's carrier and on the model.

The new Android 5.1.1 is expected to bring some key changes to Samsung devices. These include a boost in performance, a fix on the existing bugs, setting enhancements on the camera and more.

Users can check if their phone also received the leaked software update by upgrading manually. The first thing to do is to go to Settings then click "About phone," "Software updates" and "Check for software updates." They can also check the update through KIES which further requires that the user connects his device to a PC or laptop by way of a USB connecting cable to launch KIES.

The Galaxy S6 may have received the latest software update from Samsung following the release of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The leaked update was tipped as being first seen in France with the build of G920FXXU2BOG8.

Because 95% of so-called tech sites have no clue what they're talking about.

What do you mean Kies is no longer supoorted?

I used it just yesterday to update a customers replacement S5 to the newest software before using it to restore his data I had backed up from the previous phone.

I'm sure the update is the security fix for "Stagefright" the security firm that discovered the security breach also supplied Google with the patches to fix the breach. The patch is 130mb and available for T-Mobile users now.

Its probably the stagefright patch as mentioned already.

Most annoyingly my carrier confirmed they have received the patch from Google, but are still "assessing" it, and have no plans to push it out in the near future.

    More Updates on the Way

We’ve learned that more Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 updates are on the way. French carrier SFR, Australian carrier Vodafone, and Canadian carrier Rogers have all promised Android 5.1.1 updates to their Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users. Most carriers don’t communicate with their customers so we simply haven’t seen too many details emerge.

The details we do have point to a fairly drawn out Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 roll out process, one that might’ve gotten longer due to the problems plaguing those running the older version of Android 5.1.1.

    Surprise! Galaxy Android 5.1.1 Delays

Rogers Canada has been promising Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 5.1.1 updates for awhile now and as far as we can tell, neither of them have rolled out.

Vodafone Australia recently completed testing on the updates, only to announce last week that Samsung pulled the cord on the software. The carrier says that it’s awaiting new software to test but that it has no idea when it might receive it.

Optus, another Australia carrier, says that a “critical issue” has been found and that its awaiting a response from Samsung. So, it looks like Samsung’s having problems with another Android update.

All three of these updates have clearly been delayed and there’s no telling when they might roll out. It’s also worth noting that this could mean delays for other carriers that don’t publicly announce their plans. You have to assume that more than three Galaxy S6/Galaxy S6 Edge carriers are testing these updates.

This could explain why we haven’t seen AT&T or Verizon roll out the updates just yet and why T-Mobile’s rolled out a new version of the software. Samsung isn’t saying one way or the other though. One thing is for sure though: Don’t expect this roll out to finish up anytime soon.

if you can get it back into download mode, then look for the knox code and if it changes from 0 to 1 or says 0x10000 instead od 0x0000 or anything changes besides 0 (0x000) your phone has identified that the system was faulted by the flash and therefore your warranty is now void because the knox security system has changed from the original setting. If it says custom most likely it has detected as well that the system was flipped but because you said it still says samsung official they may let it slide. But im not sure what that means i believe is that the phone is an official samsung and that the flash was an official samsung code but it wasnt the original code on the phone. Sometimes a flash on the phone will change the imei so that could mean why the phone is now custom, More than likely though the repair person will have to flash your system anyway and if that doesnt work then your motherboard isnt being read by NAND and you probably need a replacement, i have been up solving mine and calling eveyr technincian store, repair person, and customer service since my phone did what yours did about 3am this morning. Ive got no sleep had about 3break downs and sadly i think it needs to just be professionally checked. My NAND keeps getting a write fail and nothing is passing over to my phone. i can still get into the recovery mode to perform factory resets and cache wipes but it says dm-veridity verification failed and even after multiple factory resets and cache wipes and accidentally hitting the adb button it has led me no where but a continous boot. My phone is only 12days old. Samsung will cover it because i didnt knock my warranty or show evident of any faulting with the OS. The phone had done a update to a new firmware and once that finished i did a factory reset from the phone settings and when i went back to wipe the cache the phone shut down and since then hasnt been able to go past the logo SAMSUNG GALAXY s6 screen powered by android. So as upset and dissastisfied as i am with the phone, i definately appreciate all the youtube videos, forums, repair technicians, and customer service advice i got today. I have definately learned more than i needed to know lol and downloaded about every type of odin available and both firmwares for the lollipop 5.1.1. for samsung galaxy and the original 5.02 the 5.02 got the farthest in download until it shut down because of the written fail and then again because of COM port, but the other one didnt even get past system configuration so i guess something needs to be looked at immediately. If you know anything please do respond back to this message before i send mine off thanks a bunch lovelies

my phone is a samgun galaxy s6 with model SM-G290P (sprint), i was originally on android 5.02 i guess but i got the phone activated in stores so when it was given to me from the moment i had it i was on 5.1.1. , i also noticed that my phone goes through odin mode easily but wont connect to the computer i have installed the smart switch, uninstalled after it failed to work with kies, i have installed the mobile drive individually and it picked it up on odin but wont pick it up on smart switch. I do know that if i can locate my s/n number then i can just plug it into smart switch to do the factory flash but i cant locate the s/n number being my phone is turned off. i tried the DEC,HEX AKA IMEI, ICC ID, RS UNDER THE BARCODE, AND none of these codes seem to be a valid s/n number. if someone could assist me with that i would be TREMENDOUSLY GREATFULLLLL!!! ALSO BEFORE i could just click my power button once and the phone would come on now i have to slightly hold it a few second for it to even show the logo.i have also noticed that if i charge my phone the phone loops otherwise if i go to download and cancel and then power on the device manually then it shows the logo once and then shuts off. so hurt you guys!

ALSO WHEN MY PHONE IS OFF I CAN SEE THE BATTERY IS CHARGING RIGHT NOW IT IS AT 82%, sorry for the caps i was typing and reading the phone. On the recovery mode update using ADB is disabled apparently and so is the option to update using external storage the apply update from cache is deprecated too and also when i started having a problem when i hit the power button home button and the volume up it showed the little android man died now it shows he is ok and up right like normal but the dm-verity verification failed still , I AM ABLE TO SEE EVERY LOG IVE RECREATED IN RECOVERY UP UNTILT EH VERY FIRST CACEH WIPE I DID THE DAY AFTER I RECIEVED THE PHONE. IS THERE A WAY I CAN TAKE THE IMAGE OR INFO FROM THIS TO REFLASH THE PHONE MAYBE?!!?!?

I didn't do anything at all. I previously used Kies with my note 3 and then when I upgraded to the s6 I had no idea that smart switch is the new software to use with the s6 so I just used kies and it worked. I only recently found out that you're supposed to use smartswitch but I haven't had the need to download it yet.
