Anyway to improve battery and performance

So I got this phone because of all the high praise instead of the g4 but I'm wondering if maybe I made a mistake. I like everything about the phone accept chrome performance and battery performance. On chrome, web pages scroll choppily and the battery isn't holding up how id like. I was hoping Samsung would ha e figured out the battery issues by now, but guess not. Is there anything I can do to improve performance and battery life? I'm using the Google now launcher BTW.

Batterywise you can try disabling all apps you don't use, and make sure that you're only syncing accounts you really need (like e-mail, periodic backups, etc.). Also remember that it takes about a week for your phone to start performing 'normally' after initial set up, and that fully depleting the battery once and recharging to 100% also helps calibrate the battery propely.

For performance, some people report that installing Chrome Samsung Support Library from the Play store helps a lot.
