Why can't people hear me on bluetooth?

I have a galaxy s6 and a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta and the bluetooth will cut out in the middle of a call. Is almost as if it puts me on mute. I can hear the person on the line but they can't hear me. And it's intermittent, we can talk for a couple minutes, then they can't hear me for 30 seconds or so, then it comes back. Has anyone else had this problem? Amy ideas on how to fix it?

Have you experimented with other BT devices (wireless headset or speaker) or tried the S6 in a newer car with BT within? BT software design/versions has been upgraded over the years; the car's BT software version may be more than 7 years old.
