GS6 won't charge/black screen with small white x's at the bottom

Everytime I plug my phone in to charge it doesn't charge, flickers and a black screen with white x's at the bottom (I believe it's gear vr). Problem is intermittent.

Tired multiple cords/chargers, clearing cache, reset/reboot and even a factory reset.

Only thing that works is my wireless charging pad.

Anyone know a fix?

Welcome to Android Central! I'd guess that it's a problem with the microUSB port. If it's completely clean, then you may have to get the port replaced at a repair shop (unless the phone is still under warranty, in which case you should contact Samsung).

A dirty/broken usb port will cause a phone to boot up Gear VR?


.... so far the solution I came up with is force stopping Gear VR services, rebooting and then it charges via cable.

What I'm wondering is if there's a problem with the phone's microUSB port that's triggering it to launch Gear VR whenever you plug the charger in. I've read posts here about similar things happening, like plugging the charger making the phone think it's connected to a dock.
