Phone won't unlock

Whenever I try and unlock my phone with a pattern lock it doesn't do anything when I insert the correct pattern. If I try push the back button it goes back to the screen you get when you press the power button, like expected. If I input an incorrect pattern it tells me that the pattern indeed is incorrect, and that I should try again. I cannot turn it off and turn it on again since I need to unlock the phone first, and I do not know how to take out the battery, if I'm able to at all.

EDIT: I don't know when, but my phone turned off at one point. When I started it up again I was able to insert the pattern and access the phone. So in the end the problem has been fixed.

There should be an option to enter your passcode, if you forgot the pattern....if you can't or don't have that ability...then you'll need to reset password through Android Device Manager, or find my phone, if you haven't set them up...then I'm afraid theres nothing to do but a factory reset of the device.
