The purpose of the app isn't to save battery life, though. So i'm not sure where your reasoning is coming from?
One of the benefits of blocking ads is cutting off the refresh of those ads, which drains battery over time (as well as using data if not on WiFi). Why shouldn't I expect that blocked ads wouldn't save some battery with this app?

Because the amount of data in ads is so minuscule, it will not be noticeable in battery life at all.

    That's simply not true.
