I am really tempted to get the edge over the regular variant solely because of the 20% larger battery. I'm typically a very very heavy user, mostly using web browsing and/or the camera.

However, I returned the Moto X Play (5.5" display) after two weeks of having it last year despite loving the battery endurance of the phone because I just couldn't get used to the larger size.

Considering my experience with the Moto X Play, would it be unwise to go for the edge just because I love long lasting batteries? I'm not too fussed about the Edge UX and while I like the aesthetic of the curved display, I still like the look of the regular S7 too.

    What should I do?

Edit: I'll add that my current phone is the Sony Z5 Compact and I really like it's small form factor.

    I would say no.

But you can try to hold it a while and see how it feels.

It's taller than the x play but narrower and thinner. Can you manage that? Sounds like you'd be better off with s7.

I actually was able to hold it today but only briefly. Sadly, didn't get a chance to hold the regular one for comparison, though hopefully I will be able to tomorrow which will really help. Credit to Samsung engineers in that it didn't feel all that noticeably larger than the S6 edge (that I have as a work phone), due to the curved back.

However, it still felt reminiscent of the Moto X Play whilst holding it. It's not like I didn't give the Moto X Play a chance, I stuck with it for as long as I could whilst still within my 14 day return window.

I just hope that I wouldn't be disappointed with S7 battery life if I did get it. I find the battery life on the S6 edge very poor. S7 should be decently better than S6 edge in theory right? 15% larger battery combined with 10% more power efficient processor.

I am also in this position though I don't think the size is really going to be that big of a downside and that larger battery is a real feature. If I could get 18hrs with normal usage that'd be awesome. There's nothing like traveling to a big city, doing work, going out to a bar and then trying to use Google Maps to navigate you for 20 mins. A normal battery experience just wont cut it, though the Edge just might be able too. I put in my pre-order for Edge a couple hours ago. A part of me will miss the smaller form factor but I'm sure that'll pass fast.

From the videos I've seen, it isn't much bigger than the normal s7 and you get a bigger battery and screen, plus the edge stuff. This video has a good side-by-side of the the s7 and s7 edge:

Hope that helps, that's how I ultimately decided between the two.

Well I was getting much better battery life on my note 5 (nearly double) compared to my s6e. The s7 is the same size battery as the note 5, but of course different cpu...

I was in the same situation kind of and went with S7 edge. I loved the size of my LG G2. Currently using the LG G5 and it is a tad too large. I am hoping that the thinner rounded back and the S7 E being not quite as wide as G4.

In your shoes, if you truly don't care about edge features, go with S7. You already like an extremely small phone in Z5 compact and S7E is just a tad smaller than X play that you returned.

    Here is a comparison - http://www.phonearena.com/phones/siz...9611,9554,9817

Also, when it comes to battery life, do we really think the S7E battery life is going to last longer than the S7? I am in the camp that thinks is it only going to be at best 10% better..likely almost the same. Simply the larger screen space is going to eat up that extra 600 mah right?

I hope I am wrong since I went S7 Edge.

Yikes. That scares me! Do you think the edge features eat up more battery? Note 5 screen is much larger than S6 edge. Note 5 have a more efficeint processor than S6 Edge?

So I was in the same boat kind of. I am not too worried about the size, my issue was with the edge. I'm new to the edge thing and was worried but that bigger battery sold me on it. I pre ordered the s7 edge only for the battery and will see if I like the edge.

The screen in the Edge is about 7.5% bigger than the S7. The battery is about 16.5% bigger. What does that tell us? That I can use a calculator app.

Note 5 has the same processor, though there could have been under the hood refinements. I am not worried though I had a s6e+ and that had similar battery life to the note 5.

This is really encouraging. I also got terrible battery life on my s6e so I'm praying that the s7e is even better than the note 5 since it has a much bigger battery and a newer (more efficient) processor. Let's cross fingers that Samsung nailed battery life on the s7e this time around!

I'm also in this camp. Love the bigger battery and bigger screen, but nervous of the edge. Not interested in the extra edge software and worried that the edge might interfere with videos, games and general use. I've preordered the s7 edge but tempted to put up with the smaller screen and battery and have a form factor that I'm more confident in. Those who have used the s6 edge or edge plus for a while, have any of the above bothered you? Or those who have played with the s7 edge in person, what do you think?

    Thanks!
