The radio can only do so much. It can't make a signal be there if it really isn't. It just means it may be able to get better performance across a weaker signal or even better performance when it comes to good signal areas. The carrier still has to reach your house.

Who is your carrier? for T-Mobile I got a booster for my house (an actual LTE booster not one the piggy backs on my internet) and I get around -90 to -100 at my house now.
I live 5 minutes walking distance from the Verizon Wireless headquarters in northern NJ. (Oh the irony.) You'd think that I'd have beyond stellar reception using VZW.

I just tested both phones at my college location in PA and the s7 provides -6dBm better signal strength. Minor, but still something.

i have always been under the impression "bars" are for voice and 4g/4g lte indicator (some with arrows, some just change from 4g/4g lte) are what indicates data signal strength. So if you are showing ZERO bars but still have an indicator, you could be getting high data speeds but no calls will come through. ICould be mistaken, but have always understood them to be TWO separate indicators of TWO separate radios...I know i will often get a "no service" msg next to T-Mobile but can still stream or goto sites, just no texts or calls come thru....

Bars represent data connection. It used to display cell signal for calls but they changed it to how good the data connection is back in Kit Kat I believe.

    Hi Almeuit!

Not to be argumentative, but i believe this is one of the biggest "misconceptions" or in this case "misreceptions" : )

"The bars on the phone are representation for Voice signals. A full bar will mean you will have the clear calls, on the other hand, the data can be seen by the type of Data service you are getting, LTE,3G(WCDMA),H or 3.5G(HSPA) and E(EDGE). Despite having the full connection bars you may have an E(For EDGE) which may give a slower network connection. It's the same thing the other way round as well, Despite getting a LTE network you may not be getting full bars, It depends on the Network tower you are connected to, the data it supports. Generally near the areas with people using less Internet over the network the companies put up towers which are good for voice signals."

    http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11/18/a-google-engineer-explains-why-kitkat-has-white-status-bar-icons-and-only-shows-connectivity-in-quick-settings/

This is just a couple of sources i see, but i STILL believe bars represent "cell phone signal" and data indicator (H/4G/LTE) is still in effect to indicate your data signal/ Yes there was a change in Kit Kat, but it was to MOVE the data indicator to Quick Settings, not to combine them as one...

I believe that is why when there is NO Data Indicator, i can still make calls/texts even tho my Data H/4g/LTE disappears (inside building most of day)

I got -108 at my home, no booster, with Verizon, between 2 bars up to 5 bars, but the download speed, sound and general usage of the phone is just fine. I have no complaints. Nearest tower is about 1 1/4 miles from me.

No worries... but if you notice that article is from 2013 . It has changed since then and the bars actually represent data. Also since a lot of calls now a days are going over LTE (VoLTE) it makes sense for them to show the strength of the data signal versus just voice.

A good way to test this yourself is to change the data. Have it on LTE and you will have .. let's say 2-3 bars but then force it to go to HSPA (4G) or even "Edge" (E) and you may go from 2-3 bars to 5 bars or whichever. It is because the phone wasn't reporting the voice signal when you were on LTE with 2-3 bars .. It was reporting the strength of that LTE signal and since you swapped to Edge / HSPA the bars got higher since the data signal is stronger in that area for those.

I went from an S4 to the S7. Love the phone, but my reception is much less than it was with the S4 and my data sometimes is completely non-existent. I can improve it by turning airplane mode on and back off, but I can't do this every 5 mins. My status says -112 and 28 asu. But I have much worse data connectivity than I did with my S4. On my cell booster, I get 1x data and cannot do anything where as I used to get 4g and 3 bars on my S4. I had to switch to my mifi which gave me 3 bars and 4g. I tested some back and forth and found consistently the same issues with my data.

I want to know if it is my phone that lacks the data connectivity or if it is the S7?

I upgraded from the note 3 to an s7

Ever since the upgrade my wifi and cell reception have been horrible

I am at my desk where i have used my note 3 in the past which had neither problems, now with the s7 my wifi and reception are always bad

    - Images/webpages take forever to load (websites that i also used on my note 3 with no problem)
    - Calls losing signal/people cant hear me resulting in me having to walk outside to get better reception

What network are you on? I'm on Sprint and I'm having this exact issue. Actually, mine bounces all around from -101 to -113 while standing still. But my wife's iPhone has zero issues.

I've been a long time iPhone user (don't judge) and have been on AT&T the past 4+ years. I live and work in the same place and travel the same road now as i have for years. With my iPhone I never dropped any calls. With the S7 edge I have technically dropped a call but there are times when either I can't hear the person on the other end or they can't hear me.

Is there a chance I have a bad SIM card or possibly some setting I can use to improve? I love the S7 and don't make too many phone call but it is a shame. However, this is the only issue I have found.

Call your provider - sometimes they actually need to activate LTE for you. That said: when my wife switched from her iPhone 6 to the S7 EDGE, Swisscom automatically sent her a new SIM, so there seem to be some issues with the S7 and older cards.

I don't care what anyone says but if I have little or no signal bars but still have 3g/4g/H etc etc displayed, I can assure you I still can't get anything on the net to load til I get those bars up again.

The best would be around 70-80 dBm (or possibly even lower than 70 if you see it. I sometimes see 65). OK signal is around 80-110. Anything over 110 can usually be counted as bad but really depends on where you're at, your carrier, and other factors.

I have had this phone since it was released and I'm on my second one and have went round and round with Verizon customer care and i.t. and the stores about it. Incoming calls drop after 30-40 seconds and they have had me do everything from turn off advanced calling to a new Sim card to taking it out of global and putting it in 4g. Nothing helps. It has to be that the phone has a terrible antenna I don't know. I have 150dbm and have never had trouble in my area until this phone and it's only incoming calls. This is my second one and they gave me a refurbished which I'm not happy about either. I feel they should let me trade for a different phone since this one is worthless but they say I'd have to pay half the retail of this thing like it's my fault! I guess I might have to switch carriers if they do not play fair. Anyone having such great luck?

I am now on my second one since the phone released due to incoming calls only being dropped 30-40 seconds into the incoming call. This is an ongoing problem also with this phone which is refurbished which I was furious about because I bought a NEW phone a month ago not a used one. I have went round and round with Verizon about this from customer care to technical support to i.t. to the stores. They had me turn advanced calling off on both phones, switch from global to 4g, and replace the sum card and same problem. At this point I want them to let me upgrade to something else since this is an obvious problem that is not my fault and now I'm paying for a phone that can't receive calls. They tell me I'd have to pay half the retail of this phone to do that and that is bs because it's not my problem. Almost time to drop Verizon I guess. Also it's not signal because I have 150dbm when it happens and I'm in the same area I've always been in with no issues until this thing.

Does it do it at the store? If it does and a store model doesn't then it's defective. You have a warranty and a defective replacement doesn't fulfill their obligation.

I haven't had a chance to test my s7e in a known weak area yet. I know my S3 performed poorly compared to wife's iPhone 4 or my droid x. Forget bars and decibels. The proof is if one can call in a certain spot and the other can't.

Unfortunately none of the nerds who review phones ever tests the phone. They only play with the pocket computer aspect.

I had an iphone 4s, a Nokia, an Experia and other phones as well, just purchased the samsung s7 edge and in my house I cannot receive any signal at all where all the others I could text and use the phone, on this one I get nothing, cannot even send a text unless I stand in the middle of the garden, just for a test I took the sim out and put it in two of my old phones and both worked, only 1 bar showing but I could call and also sent a text, put the sim back in the s7 edge and nothing, really pissed off now after spending all that money for something I can't use unless I go outside and stand in the middle of the garden, be great when it's raining or freezing cold :-( what could be a fantastic phone is no more use than a brick sitting on the side.

It doesn't matter how many bars I have, 4g, 3g, let when I get a call it sounds like they are in bubbling water and can't hear me or I can't hear anyone voice muffled. This phone has lots of bells and whistles, but the MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE AND RECEIVE CALLS!!! OTHER ISSUE IS I HAVERY TO TRY 2 TO 4 TIMES TO GET A CALL TO GO THROUGH!!! I am paying a lot of money for this Galaxy 7 edge and I expect to be able to do the main function of a phone talk on it!!! Wish I has checked this phone out first!! Will never buy Samsung products again!!! Want my iPhone back!!!

There should not be a drastic difference between your old iphone & the S7E. There is an issue with your phone. Start by finding out what the dBm signal strength is vs someone else in the same location with a different phone. Or go to your local phone carriers store & compare yours with a display unit. Maybe you can exchange the device out if you just purchased it?
