This is on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. But I suspect that it should be in other variants. The Verizon one has limited options in the settings

You can use the 4g switcher app or similar to change the network mode :

On Verizon for example if you want to force 3g,use cdma auto prl. Or you can choose lte only if you don't want to use cdma at all. To set it back to default, go to the settings and choose lte/cdma.

Now I just need to get a tasker script to manage this setting for me. While at work, 4G frequently fails for me (plenty of bars, but speeds are near zero - I assume too many offices and too few towers) ... but 3G zips along fine (I assume most people are on 4G now, so the 3G bands are wide open traffic lanes).

Everywhere else I go, 4G works great ... so will need to put together a location-aware script to manage the setting.

OOTB Verizon defaults to global and not LTE/CDMA. Apparently they don't want us to use their CDMA networks anymore.
