I searched everywhere for this info and couldn't find it. I just came over to the S7 from S6 after my son's was stolen and replaced with this one. How does it benchmark so much higher with less cores?

Number of cores don't matter as much as the tech used in designing the chips.

An example would be a 1.5Ghz dual core 4th gen i5 is as fast as a 2Ghz quad core 1st gen i5.

Okay. Now I just need to research what the new technology is.

Without a doubt, the Global, Exynos octa core, models offer better performance and battery saving in real life usage when compared to the Snapdragon, quad core, models for the U.S.A. and China. See, video...

    Exynos model

    Snapdragon model

See, also, U.S. carrier S7 models have locked bootloaders and no rooting

I believe he's referring to why would a dual core SnapDragon on the S7 have better performance scores than the Octacore Exynos on the S6

This right here. Actually the quad core S7. Even though S6 is octo.
