I was checking out my battery stats and the Android OS was at 44% even higher than screen. Why could it be this high and is there any way to lessen it?

That should be normal if there's nothing else running except the OS itself. All those numbers will always add up to 100 anyway. If Android OS usage decreases, then that simply means another app was using the battery more. I understand many people apparently don't know how to use the graphs and percentages shown there. 17hrs is already very good battery life for a smartphone.

The graph shows how fast your battery is decreasing. Then the total battery used up is divided as a whole and the contributory apps shown. Hence in 3hrs, your phone used up 28%. Android OS used up 44% of that 28%, or 12.32%. That should be fine, especially as processes made by other apps are clumped under Android OS as well.

If you want to lessen that, just play a game for an hour or two and it will go down.

Do you dislike it or something? Personal grudge?

No its not a "personal grudge". I have never seen numbers for the OS so high before that's all. It's now in its mid to late 30s on my phone

On a normal usage day, mine is about 28% or so. Don't worry about it.

Either way I've been beyond impressed with the battery life on this phone. Seven to eight hours screen on time per charge. I was just surprised with the high OS because my S6 it would only be in the 20s. Maybe it's higher cause of my low signal idk. Either way the battery on this phone is a beast

Every phone, except Nexus line, calculates this stat differently. It's best to look at other things to measure battery life and efficiency.

Android System and OS seem high on my phone, too ,but overall battery life is stellar, so I don't worry about it. I think part of it is that some things that used to be broken out separately are now included in the System and OS. Just look at all the packages that make up those two stats.

It just weirded me out yesterday when my phone said android os was over 50%. I'm getting over eight hours screen on time so it's not affecting battery life. Just looks weird when it used to be in the 20s

Definitely way too high over 85% of a charge. And in comparison to a lot of days, this isn't as bad as usual.

There was a lengthy thread about this issue over in the xda developers forum. The consensus seems to believe that it's something going on with a faulty kernel that is a part of samsung's overlay. The reason why a lot of people aren't worried about it is because even with the high android usage the battery life is still very good. According to the forum there really is something wrong with the high android os usage and it's not just how the phone calculates total usage. The international version with the exynos processor reportedly doesn't have such high values for android os and it has even better battery life than the us version. However that could be attributed to the different soc.

I have the Exynos version and I still had it go up to 50% yesterday. Thanks for sharing your insights though. I'm not technical enough to understand what goes on over on xda lol
