From what I've been reading, the phone needs to be near. I can only confirm that when it wasn't, my payments would fail. I'm pretty certain I was doing it correctly. Those were the only times it didn't work for me is when the phone was out of range.

That means you can make 10 payment attempts without your phone being connected, and if your watch is removed from your wrist you have to enter a four-digit PIN code. All of the security is done correctly here.
Maybe they decided against it? Weird.

Sucks that that happened to you, but I can relate unfortunately. A merchant had their account hacked and therefore my debit card was compromised. While on vacation, a low balance went off went it couldn't for knowing my expenses. Had to cancel the card while on vacation and had to swap over to credit for remainder of the trip for lack of cash.

So with that said, I will now give this Samsung Pay a chance due to everyone's advice!!

Was reading that my Edge will do MST along with NFC. Apparently that's a thing? Anyone tried the MST function?

I will go buy a pack of gum to just live a little and try something new. Ha!
That's the great thing about Samsung Pay, it uses both NFC (Near Field Communication) and much older technology MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission). NFC is the most but if the merchant hasn't upgraded their swiping terminals for quite some time then NFC won't work but MST will unless it's a terminal where you have to insert the card like at a gas pump or ATM machine. So in theory Samsung Pay should work with almost any terminal out there whereas others like Apple Pay will not.

I literally press mine against the terminal where the strip reader is and hold it there until I get a prompt to enter my pin, never had an issue.

Just to clarify, MST is not old. The magnetic strip is. MST is the new technology that allows the phone to securely emulate the strip and send the information wirelessly to old strip readers.

Me neither.....unless my phone wasn't near. Is your phone on you when you do this though....every time?

I usually just hit the home button to wake it up, then slide up the Samsung Pay from the very bottom. I have noticed since the latest Samsung Pay update that I have to wait about 2-3 seconds before I can use my fingerprint to activate the payment process; it's like Samsung Pay is slow to load or something. Not a big deal but not as fast as it used to be.

Samsung Pay is great. I use it often. I even used it in Paris with no issue at all.

There are too many reasons to count why i love my Gear S3, (LTE Version) but i'd have to say #1 reason is being able to leave phone behind at lunch and just use my watch to pay for things (while phone is back @ work on desk miles away : )...

Its NOT a gimmick, its become the, "the new normal" for me... Thought it was GREAT on my phone, but finding the "sweet spot" occasionally did take some finagling...but dang, NOTHING beats pressing & holding little side button and BAM!, tap "pay" and DONE!

As much as i love Samsung, i have ALWAYS experienced some form of disappointment after anxiously awaiting some new feature they promised....but their implementation of Samsung Pay on Gear LTE S3 Frontier to me is "perfection at its finest".... Couldn't IMAGINE not having it...ty Sammy, love u : )

I use Samsung pay and love it. Like everyone else it's a joy to watch the reaction of the resistant cashier when it works and they act like you are holding up the line. My Gear S3 Frontier will arrive today and I can't edit to try it.

Unless you live in a city where people only take Applepay (which is illegal), you shouldn't have any issue using Samsung Pay. It works with any 'swipe' terminal for debit/credit cards as well as with NFC terminals that take Apple Pay.

it should work everywhere even if there is a Apple symbol - go try it at a McDonalds they said it wouldn't work but it works perfectly. Funny thing is that they have the Android Pay and Apple Pay mentioned by the door but Samsung Pay will work

Since Samsung Pay is not just for NFC terminals, it doesn't need to be advertised on the door (plus, they didn't pay the banks/companies for that hehe). BUT if it says Android Pay and Apple Pay, that just means their terminal is NFC-enabled, so Samsung Pay will work either way (either by emulating the magnetic stripe or by falling back to NFC).

I mean that the banks here will never activate the service until apple and apple users want it. Over 90% of our terminals are NFC (only for NFC cards) but you can't download Samsung or Android Pay, and even if you apk you can't add a card to them.

I use it every single day (OK, maybe not every day, but pretty much!). If this thing could be used for ID (driver's license, etc.) I'd leave my wallet at home. I missed it terribly when I tried the V20. One of the main reasons I came back to Samsung.

You can, however, turn it off if you want to (but truly, it's just so much better and secure than using your actual card! Plus they are running promos all the time, including their new rewards program). Just go to the app's settings if you've already set it up and select RESET APP to clear all information from it, or if you do want to keep it just in case but not have it 'interfering' with anything else, go to the app's settings, select USE FAVORITE CARDS and turn everything off there. That way Samsung Pay will only be opened when you open the app.
Absolutely agree. I scanned all those annoying keytags for Kroger, Dicks, the library, gym, etc. and saved them in Samsung Pay. Its super convenient to just swipe up to open the app and use my card. Samsung Pay is a good reason to keep using a galaxy device.

I really enjoy it, but I will use it more once USAA approves the whole thing. Very easy and actually the only pay app that I can frequently use. No major retailers accept NFC/Apple/Android payment methods
USAA works because I use it all the time

I found out very quickly that NFC barely works in my area in NJ. Yet the MST works every time. And I've been to Walmart, Target, Gamestop, Stop and Shop, Shoprite, Best Buy, Holister, places at the mall. The one thing I've noticed and I said this before- Is that I can only use my debit card as credit. Otherwise the payment won't go through. I went on Samsung.com to find some answers about this but I haven't found anything. I could try talking to someone at the bank. The thing is I used to be able to use it as debit until the latest version came out. It also could be that stores are forcing people to use the physical card instead of using Samsung Pay. Only Walmart was forcing me to use it as credit. Now all of the stores are the same way now.

There have been so many great promotions just for using it, too - so many cash back rewards, etc. However, any time I can avoid giving my actual CC numbers to a merchant is great news to me. It just gets better and better. I like Android Pay, but Samsung Pay is a different level.
