I had gone through and ran the commands via command line to enable the adoptable storage feature on my android s7 edge with 64GB sd card..

It shows as a large area.. 128GB, 87.39 gb used.. internal storage however is at 31.46gb of 32gb.. while the sd card is showing 18gb of 59gb used.

Despite being adoptable.. when i install apps from the google play store, now i'm getting insufficient storage messages..

Is there a work around to this... i was under the impression adaptable would mean one big area as seen by the OS, but this doesnt seem to be the case.

    Thanks in advance

If you have sd0 and sd1 (internal and card) you don't have adoptable storage. Did you format the card for "internal"?

Moved from the Marshmallow forum to the S7 edge forum, since adoptable storage on the S7 edge may have its own idiosyncrasies (considering that you have to go through a special procedure to enable it).

Ah, appears I missed this step where I go to storage. SD. Then migrate. Now I think it's golden

Can you please explain how you do the whole adaptive storage for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? Does it matter what carrier you have?

Basically i followed the guide here https://www.xda-developers.com/enabl...7-and-s7-edge/

At the end you goto storage, sd.. migrate data and it finishes the process (and erases whats on the sd as it marks it as internal).

I dont think it matters what carrier.. just be sure to back everything up first.

I found that in doing this it fixes other issues besides apps not fully migrating to SD, but also the notorious google photos app from not being able to delete pictures from the sd card.

Update.. even though my s7 edge now has the adoptible storage correctly migrated etc.. i'm still running out of space with certain smaller apps.. say ones that are under 150mb.. it still reads as internal 31.5gb out of say 32.. though the sd has been merged in correctly.. i think what is happening is some apps just wont install to the "SD" even if it is formated as internal? so it wont allow the install of those apps without removing others first..

Has anyone else with the s7 edge and the adoptible sd card found this occurring as well?

Thank you so much for this information but I'm scared to try this, I don't want to mess up my phone

I have just attempted this multiple times, but I don't have any options to format it for internal. There isn't even a more screen...

I had the same issue. I think at some point after converting the SD card to adoptable storage, I noticed a decrease in the amount of Internal Storage. I incorrectly assumed that using the "migrate data" feature found after pressing the "more" button in the internal storage area of the settings (settings>storage>internal storage>more>migrate data) would move data from internal storage to the adoptable storage on the SD card. This is WRONG. This action moves data from the SD card to the onboard internal memory.

How I fixed the internal storage insufficient issue:
    1. Back up data to a computer using Samsung Smart Switch (http://forums.androidcentral.com/e?l...token=ihfoqtrt) This took about 1.5 hours to complete for a total of about 60 GB of data.

    2. Convert the SD Card to Portable Storage (settings>storage>SD card>more>format as portable storage). This will move as much data as possible to the on-board memory and format the SD card to portable storage.

    3. Follow all of the steps to re-convert the SD Card back to Adoptable Storage. This link was very useful because a video accompanies the instructions. (https://www.xda-developers.com/enabl...7-and-s7-edge/)
Note - the updated ADB has global access, so when using the "administrator" command prompt, it is unnecessary to type in a path for the location of the ADB program.

    4. VERY IMPORTANT - After formatting the SD Card as outlined above, do not forget to use the "migrate" function for the SD Card (settings>storage>SD card>more>migrate data). This will move data from the on-board memory to the adoptable storage memory card. YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS ONCE AFTER FORMATTING THE SD CARD TO ADOPTABLE STORAGE.

    5. Use Samsung Smart Switch to restore all of you data (takes about 1.5 hours).

Following this process released 12 GB of "internal" storage and allowed me to update all of my apps and install new apps. It appears that the "internal storage" might again accumulate. At that time, I plan to repeat the process. I hope the next phone just comes with a larger solid state drive, like the I-Phone. I would rather pay more to have accessible, reliable data access.

I'm having an issue now which may or may not be related.. but if you try to do burst mode with the camera you get "unknown error occurred"

I cant seem to find anyone else with this issue though.

Under standard memory use, doesn't burst mode always write to internal memory even if external card is selected for shooting? Could this get messed up if adoptable storage is used?

This issue still persists and probably for this reason, though even modern regular cameras have no issue writing to an SD media on burst mode.. you would think there would be a fix.. For now i use a high speed camera app that writes to SD and still works

I wonder, is this problem solved? On a different forum I found this post https://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...-htc-10-a.html stating that according to HTC (different phone I know) the adaptive memory is not really an extension of internal memory. They do speak like this in all the reviews you read online but it seems that the extra memory is only used for data storage, not a real extension of 32gb memory. So you can't make your phone a 128gb memory phone like the oneplus5.

If I understand the post and the information of HTC correctly. I assume this is not different for the Samsung phones. Or have you been able to cross the 32gb internal memory barrier?
