I use my S7E to Uber so I have the Uber driver app going along with Waze. My phone kept shutting down my apps and a pop up stating that my phone is overheating while I had it charging. I wondered if it was my Otterbox case trapping the heat so I took it off and tried it. Sure enough, running the same apps, plugged in and charging and it did not overheat with the case off.

Is there a case out there with venting holes to help air circulate? If not I guess I may have to figure out how to cut some holes on the back of the case so it can breathe.

Which case do you have? My Otterbox Commuter case works fine without overheating

I suspect that those two apps constantly running and accessing the network are going to make any phone run warm, especially when charging at the same time. Remember that the S7E is designed with a liquid coolant that circulates within the casing to drag heat away from the processor. Some folks have described the back as some sort of heat sink, to radiate the excess heat from the device. If you trap that heat, the phone will go into a protective mode and shut down apps.

Rather than modifying a case, why not just remove the phone from the case when you are Ubering?

You may also look at a cheap TPU case and simply cut a large hole in the back.
This way you still have some protection on the sides and top/bottom and allow air to get to the back easier.
Wont look pretty but it will get the job done.

We had similar problem with the 7edge, a brand new one was mailed out from SPRINT, after 10 days while using the phone, it started to overheat and it wouldn't charge. We contacted SPRINT and told them the problem. At one point it began so hot, it almost burn my girlfriend. Then, we remembered the note7 situation. This phone had no covering case, it just started overheating.
SPRINT sent out another brand new one, sealed in the box, never open before. In less than 14 days another strange thing happened. The phone screen started blinking, with no apps visible only the clock will appear after few seconds. The phone won't even turn off. With this phone it had the soft gel case protecting it before this happened. The phone has been blinking for 8 days now, as I'm writing this comments. We just got a new one from SPRINT, activation was just completed and is being charge right now.
Before we got this new phone from SPRINT, we had to go through a struggle with the rep we were speaking with. She told us even though the phone was activated less than 14 days, the corporate store had told her that the upgrade and original activition, was more than 14 days, so we should pay a $75 fee for repair. We refused, cuz, this didn't make any sense to us. Especially when the 14 days clause/period covered the device and not the upgrade. She was able to understand these points and waived the fees. But this took a lengthy time.
Is this whole inconvenience, worth owning a 7edge? Please help us out here. As SPRINT was technically blaming us for these malfunctioning phones.
