So I thought I'd do some battery life testing again as I've been getting very meh results so far with Nougat.

Here's a day with little usage from me, on WiFi most of the day, gps@battery saving and I've also limited the CPU to 70% and set screen resolution to 1080p. Brightness is somewhere around 45%, signal is good too.

Thanks for the stats lammy8! :)

Always love it when people do some testing. Would you say battery life has at least been at least a small improvement over Marshmallow? or is it relatively the same? :)

My usage is round the same as what you were testing with. Im mostly on Wi-Fi since its free at work and i have some at home. Brightness is normally below 50%.

Same settings, except power saving off. This is what I'd consider standard setup, with GPS on power saving and at 45% (ish) brightness.

Personally, it's been worse. I don't know why that is, as no apps are being overly hungry based on their usage. It's almost as if the OS is making the phone use higher CPU bands to help with fluidity? I'm speculating here, but will try to remember to periodically log core usages.

There's a noticeable difference in battery life without power saving for me here today. Nearly an hour's less screen on time, pretty bad compared to the 3-3.5hrs that Marshmallow offered.

Looks pretty good...

If the damn Facebook app wasn't such a battery killer, these phones would last twice as long.... or longer 😎

Yeah there's a lot of rubbish running on the FB app that really doesn't need to be there. Having said that though, I've tried every single other app out there and they're all flawed enough to make me go back to the standard one.

I'm still not hugely sold on this update. I can stretch 6 hours SOT out of it, definitely worse than MM for me.

These are mine on stock settings. It's somewhat better than Marshmallow.

The article states "Nougat features a lot more white in its visuals" as being a possible contributor. What visuals is it referring to and how much/often are they displayed such that they would have an impact?

As standard that's true. Think of the backgrounds like in settings, dialer etc as default. They're all white. Though I've changed that, there just seems to be an overall drain during the battery cycle.
