I have two phones: the S7 Edge and the Motorola XPE 2015. I have almost all of my apps saved to the SD card in both phones. The difference is that when an app updates on my S7 Edge, it gets booted off of the SD card.

Conversely, when an app updates on my Motorola XPE the app remains on the SD card.

Even when both phones were running Android 6.x.x., the same behavior occurred. My Edge is running Android 7.0 and still, an app update boots it from the SD card.

Can anyone lend me a hand with this? Thank you in advance!

On the XPE are you using the SD card as adoptable storage or as portable?

Good question. I don't know the difference. I do know that my XPE forced me to format the card and the Edge did not, but even before this SD card, the old one I had wasn't formatted but could still keep apps on the SD.
