Nougat composing new sms - now an extra step :(

Anyone know how to fix this, been pissing me off for months now and my searches have not revealed anything.

Since Nougat, when I click to create a new text message (the little blue circle with the pen, bottom right corner within messages), it brings me to a contacts/select recipients page with the yellow compose button top right.

is there any way on this earth to change this to the way it used to be? Ie. Going straight to compose like how it ALWAYs was since day one?

I don't think there is a way to do it.

I'm assuming it's the same situation for everyone right? Seems petty buy kind of annoying when one like me has to txt quickly a lot. Guess there is always the option of other messaging apps but I'm a little sceptical of security/privacy nowadays with all the crap going on. Lol.

You can also create direct message shortcuts for your contacts.

Are you constantly texting new people? If not why are you not just using the conversation list to carry on the conversation?
