Are magnetic covers bad for the phone?

I am currently using an S-view cover on my S7E but it is slim and doesnt have a magnetic lid so can't be fully closed if the phone is dropped. I also have a Spigen case but it doesn't cover the display at all.

I want to get a good wallet-type case with a magnetic cap for good display protection in case of dropping, but I am afraid that it might damage the phone's NFC or compass.. i don't know.

Are these things safe and also what case would you recommend me for that matter ( Shieldon being current on my radar) ?

Thank you.

I have a Best Buy Tech21 notebook cover that has magnetic latch with no problem. I really hate notebook covers when taking photos, but wanted to protect Edge. You are right to be concerned about magnets, because while they likely won't erase data, they really can screw up your compass. Hasn't happened to me, but it could...ie: magnetic mounts, don't buy them.
