Gmail missing storage browsing?

I have an LG V20 and on my gmail app, when trying to add an attachment, I have the ability to select internal or external storage among the available options. From there, I can navigate to the exact folder to find the file I want to attach.

I just noticed my wife's S7 Edge does not have these two options. It has some basic options like images, downloads, etc., but she needs to attach some files that wouldn't show up this way. She is updated to the latest version of Gmail too.

Any idea why the discrepancy or any suggestions to get that ability on her phone? Both phones are on Verizon, if that makes a difference.

I have options to access internal storage, the attachment defaults to the SD card on my S8+ as that's set in Camera. Might try having her change the default storage for Cam if she has an SD card installed.
