I have a Samsung S7. When I'm at work, I turn my phone off and then turn it back on during breaks and lunches. Messenger will show the original time a message was sent, but text message will not. Is there a way to change that so I can see when the message was actually sent? My S6 used to show me the original sent time of a text message, so I don't understand why the S7 doesn't.

    Thanks in advance!

Your S7 is behaving the way it should, I find it incredibly hard to believe your S6 showed the time the message was sent to you rather than when you received it.

Welcome to Android Central! Is there a reason why you want to power the phone off completely during breaks and lunch? If you don't want to be disturbed by calls or notifications, then how about turning on Do Not Disturb instead?

With my S6, I also shut it off on my breaks and lunches. I would get texts shortly after turning it off and the received message would say 2:38pm. My phone would be turned on roughly by 3:35pm. I'm not saying it's not functioning like it's supposed to - it was just nicer than seeing a text say "7:04am" when it was probably actually sent at 5:30am. If there's no way to change a setting for it to do that, then that's fine. Also, I have to keep my phone in my locker. But in the past, I've noticed that when I don't turn my phone off, the battery life goes down much faster.

Ok, then here's another option -- when you have the phone in your locker, turn Airplane Mode on. Turning off the cell radio will preserve your battery life since the phone won't be struggling to hold on to the weak signal.

(Although this might not solve the issue with the received time -- worth testing out, though. Also, if you have wi-fi at work, then you can turn wi-fi back on while the cell radio remains off, and the phone should still receive SMS via wi-fi calling.)
