Since Samsung decided not to offer S7 or Edge with the Qualcomm 820 chip in the US & EU will the Samsung chip offer the Quick Charge 3.0 and the powersaving of the 820?:

Looks like the stock Samsung Global model of the S7/Edge, G930F/G935F, will get...

    Exynos 8890 Octa... Quad-core 2.3 GHz + Quad-core 1.6 GHz

Whilst the U.S. carrier models of the S7/Edge, G930A/P/V/T/R & G935A/P/V/T/R, and the South East Asia models G930FD/G935FD, will get...

    Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820... Dual-core 2.15 GHz + Dual-core 1.6 GHz

I wonder if it is because cdma which is the determining factor whether or not it gets to 820? 3 of the usa versions use cdma and hence need a qualcomm baseband chip. The 820 incorporates a qualcomm baseband chip on the soc.

Well here's the official [usb] charge speeds for the Exynos model:

    S7 - 95 minutes 0-100%
    S7 edge - 115 minutes 0-100%

How does that compare with the US model?

Quick Charge is only supported on a Snapdragon Processor. I don't know the difference in charge times between the 2, but on my HTC M8 the charge time is about 90 mins, so I can imagine it'll be much quicker on the 820 Processor. My understanding is that the S7 with the 820 is that it'll be 0-50% in about 25 mins, and a full 100% in about 70.

Samsung U.K. are quoting on their official website, the following charge times... S7: 90 min & S7 edge: 100 min

Have wondering this myself. I've pre ordered an S7, and here in the UK it's been confirmed that we are getting the Exynos 8890 version. I want to know whether it's worth picking up a 3rd party quick charger, they cost far less than the official Samsung models.

Amazon uk are listing an Anker quick charge 3.0 compatible charger for £10 (Samsung are likely to charge close to 3 times that for one of their own), I've used Anker stuff before and they are very good quality. Since Samsung are only quoting one set of charge time figures, should we assume they have licensed quick charge for the Exynos SOC as well??

Grateful if anyone has any info on this.

I don't think a Quick Charge charger will make any difference for the UK version, as it is an Exynos processor, which does not support quick charge.

    Disappointing

Yet now according to Clove Technology (a uk based online retailer) which claims to be stocking the EU/Global version of the S7, it's actually coming with the SD820.

This is all very confusing, I've pre ordered this thing and am not even sure which version I am getting!

See the Samsung U.K. link in post #8, above. This shows that Fast Charging is available on the Global S7/Edge, G930F and G935F, Exynos, models.

"Even with the bigger batteries, you can depend on the built-in fast charging capabilities to keep you free from being tethered to a plug for too long."

Samsung uses "Adaptive Fast Charging", which is basically their name for the fast-charging tech utilized on their phones.

You can apparently use QC 2.0 wallwarts with it and have it utilize QC 2.0, regardless of processor. It worked on the Exynos-only S6 and Note 5, apparently.

Ah, that's interesting to know, thanks. Decent QC 2.0 chargers are dirt cheap these days, about £7-£8 on Amazon.

this is what the App "Hardware Info" has under "CPU"

    AArch64 Processor rev 2 (aarch64)
    Cores: 4
    Max Frequency: 1593 Mhz
    Instruction Sets: arm64-v8a,

disappointed in that everything I read said it would have the 820

EDIT ... downloaded CPU-Z and it looks like I DO have the Qualcomm MSM8996 chip ... the Hardware Info app is WAY wrong
