Gmail not auto populating my contacts, why?

I recently updated my phone to the S7. Now when I start an email it does not auto populate my contacts at all! any advice? Yes I tried settings etc...

You need to give Gmail permission first, probably. (Took me a while to figure this out.) Look for something to hit around here.Attachment 221755

What if that popup doesn't appear when you type into the "To" field? There has to be a way to change it somewhere
