I have Samsung Galaxy s7, everytime I go to settings, lockscreen to change from swipe to pattern, it asks for fingerprint, I give my fingerprint, then it says unfortunately settings has stopped. I did restart and cleared settings cache. What can I do now?

    Hi
I had the same problem where I couldn't change my lock screen to none as it was faded out with a message about administration.
    Go into Security.
Then scroll or search for Credential storage.
    Then click on Clear credentials.
    Bingo

Welcome to Android Central! If that doesn't work, then are you able to unlock the phone with the fingerprint sensor, or does that fail as well?

I also have the same problem with my Galaxy S6. I tried to change the settings from Pattern to Pin but it showed "Settings has stopped". Since then I can no longer change the lockscreen security of my phone.

Welcome to Android Central! You're in the S7 forum, so you may want to create a new thread in the S6 forum. In the meantime, try wiping the cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-21095

I found a work-around, had similar issues with my Samsung Galaxy s6. I couldn't change security lockscreen settings after switching to password from pattern lock. (I also had fingerprint enabled). It turned out I had to go to Settings --> Lock screen and security --> fingerprints, then turn on my desired back-up method, through the fingerprint section. Rather than through the 'Screen lock type' settings. It's definitely a bug, but you can work around it. I think this only applies if you have fingerprints enabled.

After an hour, of trying to figure it out, I think I found a solution! You are going to want to go to Lock Screen and Security then scroll down and tap Other Security Settings. Then if you scroll down a bit and tap Phone Administrators, another screen will pop up. There will be an app called Support and Protection. Tap that and it will prompt you to accept to its terms. If you read the terms, it will tell you that this app will factory reset your phone without warning at any time and will reset lock screen, along with other things. All of those terms are fine, even with the threat of the factory reset because you can disable it as soon as you change the lock screen. Once accepted, you will go to settings and search Support and Protection and tap the toggle On and Off button to On if it isn't already on. Then, go back to settings and open Applications. Scroll until you find Support and Protection and give it permissions to Phone and Storage. I don't know if it needs Storage, but I added it just incase it didn't work. Then if you try to change your lock screen, it should just bypass your old password and trash it, sending you straight to the lock screen option screen. Once it's been changed, feel free to take permissions away from Support and Protection as well as disable it from the Phone Administrators since it does have the possibility to factory reset at any time.
