I'm afraid to lose it and i hear that encryption means someone else won't be able to read it if they were to find my phone and remove the SD card to plug it in their PC or their own phone. However i am also paranoid about losing data to a corrupt SD card so i like to back up every two weeks to an external hard drive.

I am dogmatic against not using cloud services to back up and don't want to hear about that. I like using USB OTG to back my stuff up using Solid Explorer to copy files to my external hard drive.

If i encrypt my SD card using the Android settings what exactly would happen when i back up my files ? Will i need to decrypt them so they can be read in an external hard drive ?
