HELP! S7 not updating

I bought a ATT S7 phone off swappa for my brother and I put my sim card in the phone and tried to get everything working for him. When it comes to the software updates I cant get it to work to save the life of me lol. I have used the clock manually and pushed it out 24hrs to several days and it keeps saying the phone is up to date and it is not lol. The phone is on Android Version 6.0.1 and the last security patch was on November 1st of 2016. I am on straight talk and am using a straight talk sim and my brother will also be on straight talk as well. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

do a factory reset if you haven't. it's a must for a new or used phone

Hello dooki, Thanks for the reply. I have already tried the factory data reset already. When I first noticed it not updating I did it and im still getting the same results.

update** All sudden yesterday I decided to give it another shot and this time it start doing the software updates finally. All is good. Thank you
