Re: S8 curved screen: is it really a good idea?

I don't think so. I'd like to get this phone but the idea of those edges causing me problems get me unsure of buying it. I think this is more a thing of looking prettier than the other phones rather than adding value to the phone.

The edge is to make the display flow over to the sides of the phone, creating a bezel less look. I don't typically use the edge apps, either.
In general, screen protectors look like garbage. I don't care what phone you have, it will not look as nice as without the screen protector.

I'd prefer a traditional no edges screen, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I think the top looks a little busy on the ones that don't have the black front, other than that it's a pretty slick phone. Have to imagine more screen is going to have an impact on a smaller than expected battery.

For me, Samsung's smartphone design is never stunning. But what I like about Samsung is they have the same feel and look across their devices. What I like about the S8's design is the all black look when screen is turned off. I also liked their decision to put navigations on-screen.

Didn't everybody scream with the s5, that it had a plastic back.
And was not as nice as the iPhone.
So we lost the ability to remove the plastic back and replace the battery.
And c we got a all glass nice phone that is a lot more brittle.
And now Samsung said they are not going back to the S5 style.
And now we have curved screens. We don't have a choice.
Heard the S7 active battery wasn't lasting real long.
It wasn't as nice as the S7.
Seems the company keeps screwing up with what people want.
Something nice, and stylish.
Something to show off like a diamond ring.
Not durable and something you can work with.
They messed up a design people liked.

Full metal chassis is the best way to go. Plastic 2nd. Glass is stupid since it breaks easily. Maybe that's what they want, in the end.

Ya ever tried to use your phone in a metal building.
Metal is not the way to go and get good reception.
That's not true. The design of the phone takes that into consideration and has small lines of plastic for the antenas. How come iphones, htc one m7, m8, 10, OnePlus 3, etc etc etc have great reception?

Samsung sold **** load of S7 Edges. They are glass and curved. Note 7 was selling like hot cakes, also glass and curved.

Corporations create more of what is selling. That's why your S8 is going to be curved and glass. It's that simple. If plastic and removable battery was making Samsung more money, you think they would have ditched that?

With the curved glass, Don't know hardly anybody that uses the features on the sides.

The curved glass seems to be harder to put protection on.
And it seems more people break them.

The S7E , you touch the side of the glass and make the phones run off places you never wanted to be.
