I suspect it will be the same as the S7 Edge which is very durable.

S7 & S7 Edge both stand up pretty well as long as they aren't neglected or abused.

What the SGs-Edge's users would do..When the shiny
new SGs8 get launched - I guess they'll assess the
durability option and decided if Switch or Not

I've seen a lot of people with cracked S7 Edge phones, especially on the back side. But those people are usually the ones using it without a case... And I'm sure the edges are more prone to being chipped and bumped against something. But we will see how Gorilla Glass 5 holds out (I heard it scratches easily but is more durable).

I'm sure that phones are made with durability in mind but remember this is a mostly glass phone. With that said, accidents happen and sometimes even a weird drop at a low height and bad angle can cause it to crack.
