Does the S8/S8+ Use Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 or 4.0

Sorry I don't know if this question was already asked...

The Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ both use Qualcomm's 835 Snapdragon Processor which is their first mobile processor that can use their new Quick Charge 4.0 technology (https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...five-minutes-charging-five-hours-battery-life). I haven't seen any information about if these phones will actually use this technology?

If the S8/S8+ don't use the 4.0 Quick Charge technology do they at least use the 3.0 Quick Charge technology this time because I know the S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 don't use it.

Also Qulacomm doesn't show the S8/S8+ as being compatible with their 3.0 Quick Charge technology (https://www.qualcomm.com/products/features/quick-charge) but I'm wondering if that's because they aren't official released yet?

I'm curious about this also, they really didn't talk about the qc at the unboxing, I'm wondering if they've backed off since the n7 debacle, they gimped the qc on the n7 during the recall

Quick Charge 4.0 and Bluetooth 5.0

Wow the S8/S8+ do use the Quick Charge 4.0 technology, if you don't mind me asking where did you find that information?

Also I knew about Bluetooth 5.0 which is great but it doesn't seem like there will be anything that will take advantage of it in the near future? It seems like other devices will need new hardware to use it and that will take awhile for most manufacturers to get on-board I bet. (https://www.engadget.com/2017/03/29/samsung-galaxy-s8-is-first-bluetooth-5-phone/)

you can't find any chargers though on Amazon for QC 4.0

You probably won't for awhile either, only phones that use the Qualcomm 835 Mobile Processor will be able to use Quick Charge 4.0 and Samsung is the first manufacturer using this chip. Problem is I don't know if Samsung is allowing the feature to be enabled on the S8/S8 Plus...

If the Samsung S8/S8 Plus don't use this feature then don't expect to see any chargers using this technology for awhile until more phones using the 835 chip are eleased. Even on Qualcomm's website they don't list any devices that can use Quick Charge 4.0 yet so it's going to be awhile.

QC 4.0 (https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapd...five-minutes-charging-five-hours-battery-life)

QC 2.0 and 3.0 devices (https://www.qualcomm.com/products/features/quick-charge)

I definitely read it in an article but I can't find any information supporting that. It will come down to what the charger that they provide supports, since no accessories are available. I also thought the S7 supported QC3.0, but I guess that is not the case either. Even QC 2.0 seems to charge the phone really quickly, so not too big a deal.

I started a thread asking this on the S8 forum and after researching it I'm still not sure. I did see an article saying it was QC4, but I'm not sure where that article got the info and I don't see it confirmed anywhere else. It better not be the same 2.0 that is on my 1.5yo S7e. As is mentioned, there are no 4.0 chargers out. The 835 does have the capability so you would think they would use it. You'd also think that if they were bumping up charging speed to 4.0 which boasts "5h charge in 5 minutes" that they would have touted it at the launch event.

Quick Charge 2.0 is quick but using the newest technology and being able to charge faster would be even better, especially since it's a new phone. When I see older phones that have used Quick Charge 3.0 since last year it's just slightly irritating.

Since Samsung didn't say anything about it at their launch event and Qualcomm has nothing about the S8/S8 Plus on their website about using the new quick charge technology (since it's the first phone using the 835 chip) it makes me worry.

Of course it's not the end of the world but it sucks to buy such an expensive phone that is so advanced yet is still suck on battery charging technology from a few years ago. Even far cheaper phone have been using Quick Charge 3.0 since last year...

You can try with a USD-PD charger.

QC4 is compatible with Power Delivery, so plugging it in a wallwart like the Pixel wallwart should theoretically trigger fast charging.

It uses QuickCharge 4.0 (when totally available) but as almost everything it's backward compatibility.

https://www.cnet.com/news/3-reasons-this-samsung-galaxy-s8-exclusive-isnt-necessarily-a-slam-dunk/

That doesn't say the S8/S8 Plus will use Quick Charge 4.0 or even 3.0 technology, it just states the Qualcomm 835 chip has the ability to use those features.

The S7, S7 Edge and Note 7 chips have the ability to use Quick Charge 3.0 but Samsung blocks it through software.

Plus when you go to Qualcomm's website they don't show any Samsung phone as being compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 (https://www.qualcomm.com/products/features/quick-charge) and no devices yet for 4.0

The ability to use Quick Charge technology is software related, the HTC One A9 was able to use it after a software update (http://pocketnow.com/2016/03/09/htc-one-a9-quick-charge-3-0).

I assume Samsung just isn't going to update their software to allow this feature which sucks but I'm sure they have their reasons.
