I don't like it but that could potentially change. I do think the Note 8 will have the same thing.

Third trip to BB to get more handle time while I wait for full reviews on them come away with more to think about and still undecided which way to go and due to the ratio.

Last visit I was leaning toward the smaller S but today the S+ but both feel a compromise...

Initially I thought I don't want to go too big so the height in the S for me is perfect but the phone is as wide as my iPhone 6 and wanted wider. The S+ is the same width as the S7 Edge which is I find perfect but I dont really want a phone as tall as an iPhone 7 Plus. But today I left liking how things on the S8 Plus like keyboard looked more spacious on the wider screen and seems easier on the eyes that way.

Last week I was able to accept a squished screen in preference of height. Today I'm trying to accept the height to get the wider look and the ratio looks better on the Plus over the S. Reach to FPS on Plus is definitely worse.

Honestly my perfect S8 would have the height of the smaller S with the width of the S8 Plus. :/

On way out the store I handled G6 and honestly the 2:1 ratio looked much more balanced and felt close to what I want. But compromise on that too like what seems to be weaker camera than the S8.

    Compromises :/

The same thing happened to me today I finally got a chance to handle them and I want the S8+ width with S8 height, but we can't have it that way so now leaning to S8+ but already ordered S8

Did you change the font size? It looks pretty small on the S8+.

I was thinking that too when looking at the pics. I took the pics more for physical size difference and you can see a difference how the spacing looks between keyboards. But my BB had about a dozen S8s and I was going back and forth handling each comparing size, colors and playing with display/font settings so I didn't check font size with these two.

All in all they look good. I can't wait for them to start shipping.

I like it.. and I'm willing to bet the Note8 will also have at least 18:9 ratio. Like everyone said, this is the trend. I have a feeling that one of the iPhone iterations this year will also be 18:9.

If it was a store demo, someone probably changed it. There are like 5 different sizes in the global settings

I was going to buy S8 but now I'm actually going to wait for Note 8. Stretching screen like that is like cheating in my opinion. What am I going to get for games and video black side bars?

Believe it or not, there was a stage when all TV & Cinema screens had a 4:3 aspect ratio - or there about, and then they made the move to 16:9 (which we use today) Im not saying that 18.5:9 will become the new standard but it at least provides the possibility of wider content which is nice. All depends on content creators and what they want to do.

I personally don't mind the pillar boxing on my smartphone screen since i regularly have letterboxing on my laptop when watching movies.

I think most games will automatically stretch to fit the size of the screen and hopefully most Apps will do the same. Embrace the change!

I'm probably in the minority, have the G6 currently but every time I pick up my Pixel or iPhone 7 plus I'm liking them more. Still not getting used to the much narrow screen and tall. Wondering how I feel after I get the S8+ which is even more taller

You can stretch it to become full screen..some reviewers have said it actually makes playing games better because you have more screen and more space

Oh goodie.... Then we shouldn't see any more posts from you complaining about what this phone is not. Please redirect yourself to the note 8 forums and begin the same process of nit-picking another phone and why the company doesn't deserve your money.

If I'm not mistaken... You can pinch to zoom in/out in SMS... Historically I've reduced the font to the smallest size... As I approach 40 years old... I'm somewhere in the middle with the font size.

I've always thought that pill boxing or letter boxing was totally overrated in terms of it being an annoyance. As technologies advance I think video will make adjustments to take advantage of the 2:1 aspect ratio. Until its more of a universal thing the S8 allows you to tweak certain games and apps to better make use of the screen and while it isn't perfect, it doesn't have to be for me, at least for now.

I don't know why Samsung made 18.5:9 aspect ratio a thing before it became a standard thing. The pill boxing is terrible.

Seriously? This has always been what Samsung does. Not sure why people are still surprised. Big phones when supposedly no one wanted them. An S-pen no one was going to use. Edge screens people thought were stupid. Split screen which people said was useless. I could go on.

When people ask why Samsung does something the community supposedly doesn't want, I just laugh.

Some of you act like you've never bought a Samsung device before.

The curved screens are still functionally meaningless and I still think they're stupid. I'll say the same thing about the LG G6, which did the 18:9 thing first. I still think it's stupid. It's not a standard yet.

I played again with the s8/s8+ and truely, I don't get It. granted iv never been a fan of any of the galaxy phones including the edge. my wife has the s7 and again, not a fan. i'm a note guy i guess.....

about the s8/s8+. it's beautiful(the screen) but where's the real estate? it looks like a toy(real esate wise) next to my mate 9. its way to narrow although I was not bothered by how tall it was. it just looks compromised to me. besides game-play or video who uses the top 25% of a screen besides weather and clock widgets. so that leaves the bottom 75% which is way to narrow in my book !!! my finger did however go right to the FPS so that was good.!

ps... gun to my head id purchase the s8 over the s8+ as it just looked less compromised to me....

anyhow that's my take. i'll enjoy my mate and wait and see what the Note has to offer.

Honestly I feel these new screen sizes are kinda deceptive and misleading...

I was excited to hear the new screens are a whopping 5.8" and 6.2" over last years 5.1" and 5.7" yet not be as big as 'traditional' phones you imagine in those sizes.

But after really comparing them at the store to my iPhone 6 and S7 Edge in how the S8 is basically the same width as my 4.7" screened iPhone 6 and the Plus is basically the same width as the 5.5" S7 Edge...

I know look at the S8 as basically a 4.7" phone (or 5.1" S7 I guess but I was using my phone as a side by side comparo) stretched lengthwise 1" and the S8 a 5.5" phone stretched out an inch just to get the diagonal measurement they can claim.

Samsung and LG and we will see if Apple does this and if they do they may set a new trend I really don't care for but may have no choice.

The S8 with the width of the S8 Plus and the height of the S8 would have been my preference.

LOL... I knew you'd say that. Still, my point is that Samsung phones are usually ahead of the curve, and this is no different.
