    @msm0511:

it's a dessert that they called "Strawberries" or "Strawberries something..."

I forgot the exact name they used, but it wasn't a fancy, long name, just Strawberries something or another.

It was elegant on the plate and the palate!

The lightly macerated strawberries are on the right, obviously. Those beige irregular chucks are slightly crunchy and adds texture to the dessert (a nice bite with a crunch to it).

There is a granita upper left (ice and green) but I couldn't identify what the green might have been. I think it might have been matcha powder!

Bottom left is a cream of sorts but I don't think it's creme fraiche. It's softer than an ice cream but thicker than whipped cream, plus the color is much more yellow than just plain whipped cream.

I thought the presentation was so great that I took a picture - I typically don't like to take pictures of my food during meals, just my own preference.

It's too bad that the camera was fooled by the overwhelmingly white porcelain and the table cloth. Maybe I should have taken the identical photograph with the camera on "Food" mode and checked out the differences and posted THAT. Alas, maybe I have to go back and eat another dessert just like that one - all for this forum and another photo op, but of course
@monicakm: please see what I wrote above. it's a dessert!

I am not good with a camera, only person in the world that could have a picture lined up and all I need to do is click a button and the picture would come out blurry. I will say these shots, although not good, were all done by the phone despite my interference.

My puppy niece, weenie dog pitbull mix, according to their vet. She's just as crazy as she looks.

    Hi, All.
Got me my 1st ever Samsung phone - the S8.

[moved from the iPhone then Asus Zenfone ...the latter's camera app was not great, so used a 3rd party camera app - Camera360 - amazing HDR pics, even froma not so great Asus phone].

Used the S8 native camera app over the weekend, and some pics were fab, some -ok [even worse than my Asus phone using Camera360 on HDR Primary mode on

So, may main question is [well 3 questions ]:

    1.
Do most of you here use the native Samsung camera app, or a 3rd party one ?
[i thought , since amazing S8 camera award-winning reviews and alogrithm, to stick with it]

    2.
When using the native S8 camera app, [i use Auto mode the past week, not Pro] - as i wanted good quality pics, 'without spending too much time and thinking too much' - basically, great pics most of the time, without fiddling too much ....

so, with regards to the HDR mode, do most of you choose:

    a. HDR Off
    b. HDR Enabled
    c. HDR Auto
[i notice that this only engages intermittently , when the camera app sees fit, by the symbol turning yellow - am i right ?]

Some pics i get better with b or c, and vice versa.

    3.
    For the S8,
Is there a way to save BOTH the 'normal' photo, and the HDR version of the photo , so i can choose later on ? [like in the iPhone and Asus Zenfone ...As i find, in some cases, the non-HDR image is 'nicer' than the HDR one !] - in the S8, in HDR mode, there seems to be no option to save the original picture.

Sorry for some of the Newbie questions - but i have done a major Google search, and on AC, with no clear answers.

Thank you ALL , in advance ... this is amazing community, and happy to be part of

    Cheers.
    R

Anybody using selective focus to fake DoF? I am finding that it is working awful compared to my iPhone 7 Plus. Any tips to make it comparable?

No. It just works awful unless you're taking a macro shot of something up close and that doesn't move. I've given up trying to recreate Portrait Mode shots from the 7 Plus I had and just grab my wife's if she's with me at the time and use hers. To be fair it is trying to accomplish it with one lens so will never be the same and it's the one thing that's making me wish I'd waited for the Note 8 which will probably have dual cameras

This is the feature I'm missing the most. With all my gripes about battery life, etc. it's really the portrait mode of the 7 Plus that I'm most lacking. After not using it for a long time, I realized that I can get some awesome shots of my daughter on the go with it and the S8 doesn't have anything comparable.
