There's a setting to "Save Raw and JPEG files" under picture size (settings) which ive heard will enhance highlights and shadows in pictures. Anyone heard anything about this setting?

    Thanks in advance

I'm definitely not disappointed with this phone's camera. Granted it has it's highs and lows, but it's managed to produce some great quality shots for me so far.

Saving RAW and JPEG is is two very different things. Shooting RAW means you're shooting an image that records ALL of the data it sees when you hit the button. The JPEG format is just like RAW, but your camera attaches its own settings to make a photo you can essentially share straight to social media without any editing.

If you look at the two pictures it saves (RAW and JPEG) you'll notice that the RAW looks pretty horrible quality wise compared to the JPEG. That's totally normal! That photo will allow you to edit it however you want without having to fight against the camera's 'Auto' setting.

In a sense, the RAW photo will look much much better quality wise, only after you do the correct editing to make it look good. You have total control over the highlights and shadows like you pointed out.

Just know though, unless you're really really caring about how your photos look, it's much easier and common to just shoot in Auto mode and create a JPEG image and edit it in some app afterwards than it is to shoot in RAW and work to make a salvageable image out of it.

    tl;dr
It's easier to fix mistakes in your images in RAW, but much more cumbersome to do so usually. If you're just a regular point-and-shoot kind of person, I wouldn't even worry about it unless you're taking pictures for a special occasion and you know you'll be able to edit the images correctly afterwards.

    How are people using camera.

Are you finding differences between Auto HDR / No HDR etc?
    Yes - with mixed results.

i have started a thread specifically about the HDR modes, for those who may be interested in this topic in particular :
