Guys, gals. If the camera on the S8 is not up to your standards, by all means, return it. Get what you want. I for one could care less what reviewers, websites, some of you say about this camera. It's a camera on a phone for gosh sake. It takes a decent picture. Pixel may take a better picture but its a POS device on my opinion. The 99% of the time when I'm not using the camera on my phone is what's important to me.

No SD card. Boring vanilla Android. Over priced. Looks.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but is it still possible to take a picture while recording video like the S6 can?

Absolutely. I do it all the time.

I figured it out. I wasn't able to because my video size settings were FHD (60 fps) where it does not allow you to take pictures while recording. With regular FHD you can take pictures while recording. I didn't realize I was in (60 fps) and that it wasn't able to do it with that setting quality.

Older discussion, but I thought I could chime in.

I tend to take a lot of sunrise/sunset pictures. I used to use the LG G5 dual camera and found the pictures to be amazing. I got so many compliments, and most people couldn't believe it was a 'phone'.
With the S8+ I find the colors aren't the same for these types of pictures. My sunsets look more 'orange' and the depth isn't the same. The 'sun' itself tends to be more of a ball of blur than of sun and I don't get the same type of feedback about my photos.
Don't get me wrong, the camera on this device takes great pictures, but I don't know if it's as good in some situations.

I also have the gear 360 and find a lot of the video is 'dark'. I haven't messed around much with the settings, but when set on Auto I wasn't completely impressed. It's super easy to use though and pairs very well with the Galaxy S8/S8+. Got a great price, so I'll keep it.

This is the best Camera I've ever had on a phone but far. Sorry you are having trouble.
I must agree the Galaxy s8 camera app is amazing for photography. My older phone was a Nexus 6p and their Google camera app is okay but I'm not a pro photographer I don't know how to find tune all the camera settings and for the camera to automatically do everything is beautiful. Even in low-light Imaging it's awesome.

Coming from a moto z force. I had no clue how much better a camera could be. the autofocus on this phone is just ridiculously good. granted, the 21mp on the moto gave slighlty more detail on zooming in, but no way I'd trade that for reliable focus and low light capability.

Makes me want a burger! Nice job on the grill mate.
Yeah, it's a good picture. To my eye though it's... flat? Does that make sense? I don't know, I mean everything is clear, but it's missing brightness and pop. At least to my eye. The front of the plate and the fries are definitely clearer than the burger on the back right. It's still a nice clear photo and I bet you used the 'food' setting on the camera, right?

The camera on the S8 is very good - don't get me wrong. I just think (IMO) some of the dual camera's on other devices like LG do an even better job.

Would like to see some comparison shots. I wonder if maybe the g5 has a better coating of UV protection? I would check out using a polarizing filter over the s8 camera and see if you get better pics.
