Both Android and Apple have their fanboys or blindly obedient sheep, depending on your pov. Which system and device one chooses should be based on needs and preferences. The companies do their best, in varying degrees to anticipate market trends and consumer preferences. They also take the competition in account.

Apple has a very well tuned but highly restricted ecosystem and their devices are uniquely integrated. My issue with Apple is that they dictate more or less the price and features in a take it or leave it. There is nothing wrong with that but they don't seem highly responsive to consumer. They make minor tweaks and pass them off as innovative. My impression is that they cater to those who like things packaged for them where not much is required of them. They just want to be entertained by a device that works well. Again, nothing wrong with that. I just don't like a company dictating to me what I need or should want. Therefore, I do what anyone should do and vote with my wallet.
Apple: panorama mode, new feature! But had been on Android for so long. Apple: touch 3D! Been on the Samsung Note and S4 (s pen/finger hover). Apple Pay, innovative! Samsung Pay is accepted everywhere, even at the Apple store. Apple iPhone 6 sexy sleek metal design! Ahem HTC M7 did it first.

All manufacturers copy good features from others. Who cares who did it first and long as it's copied well or bettered? I'm on my Galaxy s8 Plus right now but 4 of it's newest or most recently introduced features I've had on my Lumia 950xl for 2 years+

    Always on Display (Glance)
    USB-C
    Iris Scanner
    DeX (Continuum)

I don't care who made them first as I get to enjoy them when and if I switch. Just like I can't wait to have dual camera set up like my old iPhone 7 Plus if and when they bring it to the Note 8 or Galaxy s9

Apple still doesn't have true multitasking with also being able to pin YouTube while using another application simultaneously. Still no wireless charging. Two features that Apple fans would surely like. USB-C connector. Larger display than 4.7 inches on the base model.

Kinda agree and disagree, iPhone is made by apple regardless what users want, unless they are forced too, like when they made the iPhone have a big screen, as it was ineviatble.

Samsung might listen to customers more, but they do try to enforce their own stuff from time to time, aka Galaxy s6 losing removable battery, microSD and having less battery than S5, no IP rating, and all in the same generation, just for most of it to return into the GS7, or you have Bixby which isn't even finished product, and yet it's part of the "reason" to buy S8, and together with LG, the awful taller phones with wierd ratio, i much prefer wider and larger phone with more surface area, like mine Mate 9.

I prefer any brand over Apple, but Samsung has still many improvement to do, although they getting there, here is mine close to perfection phone specs:

At least 6 inch screen that is wide at least as the Mate 9 and a bit taller, 4500mah+ battery at least, 64GB rom and 6gb ram, i prefer LCD IPS over SAMOLED but both shall do, 1440p or 1080p, strong stereo speakers with great DAC for headphones, great cameras at both low light and regular light as well as great selfie camera, quick charge,microSD,IP68, wireless charge and last but not least, GREAT SOFTWARE SUPPORT and fast updates.

It's a list that no company can accomplish in one phone, Mate 9 for me was the closest to it, as it has best battery life, best performance, great screen, great speakers, average DAC, great both cameras(even in low light, though not as good as s8), while samsung has IP68 and better developer support.

Both phones are good but not great, time will see how the S8 will improve.

Other phones have a curve too but it's just bezels.

iPhones for me are comparable to BMW cars. You pick up one and you can be sure you get rock solid tech and everything works perfectly. Samsung is like asian car manufacturers. There's lots of bells and whistles and fancy features. But will they work 100%? Will you get software support for more than 2 years which is important for many people making such a pricey investment? I'm pretty sure the awkwardly placed fingerprint sensor and the color tinted displays wouldn't have passed Apples quality control.

You're right, that's a good comparison, as long as we're agreed that the BMW in question, while having Rock Solid Tech, is actually Tech from five years ago.
You might know that BMW is actually one of the leading inventors in the car industry. ;-) It's just so that they don't like to promote half-baked fancy stuff. Which reminds me of that face recognition you can cheat with a photo. Why even build in such a useless and potentially dangerous feature? It's stuff like that Apple wouldn't do. Also this alpha-status release of Bixby (with even a dedicated button!). Why Samsung?

My display is fine, and the fingerprint sensor is perfect for me. I have long hands though. It would be awkward for me, if placed lower. And I have a plus.

Iphones are crap quality compared to past iphones.

Apple used to lead in everything. They've rested on their laurels for far too long, and it's showing.

That you can live with the shortcomings of the S8 doesn't mean they are not there. The fingerprint sensor has been criticised in almost every review. Also the forums are full of people that keep exchanging their phones due to the display problems. So you can't claim these issues are non-existent.

And why are iPhones crap quality? That's not a founded argument.

I'm dead sure every manufacturer will drop the headphone jack sooner or later. Maybe Samsung didn't do it this time, but it will happen.

It is a founded fact just from real world reviews from people I know, myself included. iphones aren't what they use to be. Most people I know don't even have a 7. I know of two other people with a 7. My gf, and a friend.

My iphone lags. Never had that problem with an iphone before, and was the main reason I got the 7. Screen quality is bad. We're talking 3gs to 6 quality trash compared to galaxy phones from even 2-3 years ago. It's a shame, because it's apple.

They've done literally, nothing, without steve jobs. Same as they did when he was gone before.

They're riding on brand establishment. Not innovation. Hell, most of their newest features have originated on android.

I own both and use both, but there's way more to criticize apple for, than android.

Especially if you hold them to the gold standard, as you seem to do, like I do.

Ever since the Note 7 incident, I truly think that Samsung delivers great customer service. They really think about the consumer and what they are looking for in a device. Sometimes I think about switching to Apple because I'd love to see what it's like, but I know I couldn't handle the lack of customization. I've always found that Apple products are over-the-top expensive, and too similar in design; whereas Android gives you waaay too much choice - which is something I love. So many options!

I don't know a lot about Samsung Pay - the reward system is interesting and further promotes the idea that Samsung cares about its consumer base. I've read posts from people on here who are considering getting another device but won't because of how good Samsung Pay is.

BMW hardly. Cadillac at best. Perhaps we recall Antennagate. Apple has had their fair share of problems.

Point is that Apple and Samsung have had their fair share of issues. Samsung is more responsive to consumers and is willing to take a risk to step out of their comfort zone. Do they try to hard to and push out things that need a little more development? Sure. Siri wasn't exactly all that and a bag of chips when it debuted.

Yep, you're exactly right. So, for me and anyone in that same boat, Samsung is currently not making the phone we want.
So we're stuck between a rock and a hard place because 1.) Apple doesn't provide the same experience we love with Android and 2.) The Pixel is being made by 1 person in a basement somewhere. Sold out are 2 words I think of whenever someone mentions Pixel.

Well, that might be the case, but Samsung's push to curve all the things was based on the sales trends that they saw with the S6 and S7 Edge...people wanted the curves. The buying public is often easily swayed by shiny objects, and often throw functional needs out the window because the phone looks so purty.

I'll admit, playing with my wife's old S7 Edge... the phone does have a striking look. But for the reasons you mention.... meh, I'd prefer a good ol' fashioned flat panel.

It's all marketing. Which came first, the Chicken or the Egg? We all know it was the Chicken, but that's beside the point. So which came first, the advertising/marketing, or the sales which funds the marketing? It had to be the marketing first. Without advertising nobody would hear of a product and therefore nobody would buy it. So you have to spend money to make money. The more you spend on advertising the more you get back on sales. This has nothing to do with which phone works the best because in 2017 nearly all phones work acceptably well. Pick any phone that has comparable ability as the S8 or the iPhone 7 and I guarantee that if the manufacturer of that phone did as much advertising as Samsung or Apple that they would sell more phones. Would they take the lead in sales? Maybe
