    Hey all,

I've been ready to upgrade to a new phone and finally decided to pull the trigger on the S8+. Of course, the price threw me off and made me look at other phones, until I decided to contact my phone company Sprint and ask if they had any specials.

    Well, the customer service rep gave me a deal of $35.xx per month for 24 months - $16 monthly credit for 24 months = $19.xx per month * 24 = $456 + 65 taxes = $521.

Is that too good to be true? I've looked on other websites for the price and I haven't seen anything less than $750.

I hope I made the right choice!

Sprint has a similar deal on line for new customers. It is for 18 months and is a lease. Becaus it is a lease, I am not sure who owns the phone once the payments are completed.

Once the payments are completed in full you own the phone. For the time that you are making the payments however, Sprint owns the phone.

She gave me the option of 18 month lease or 24 month installment. I told her I'm not interested in leasing, so I do own it flat out after 24 months.

When you lease, you have the option to pay the remaining payments (6 more to equal 24) I believe so that you own the phone. Otherwise, you can upgrade and return the leased phone, I believe.

OP that sounds like a pretty good deal!

If you are a person that keeps their phone for 2 years before needing to upgrade, then yes it's a good deal. S8 Plus is an amazing phone. I have it. Go for it if that is the phone you want for the next 2 years and I think it will sail you through with no issues.

Which part don't you think is true? You're leasing the phone until it's paid off in full. Until that happens, the phone technically still belongs to the carrier. That's why you have to turn it in when you upgrade (prior to paying it off in full).

Hmm, actually, this is from my chat with Sprint:

You : So if I choose the 24 month installment term, that is owning, not leasing, correct?
Jessica : Yes, with our 24 Months Installment, you won't be leasing the phone and you will own the phone after 24 Months Installment term.
You : What happens if I switch my phone halfway through?
Jessica : In that case, you will need to pay the remaining balance of your installment term.

EDIT: actually thinking about it, that doesn't specify if I'm returning the phone to them or keeping it after paying the remaining balance.

You will need to pay the remaining balance of the phone. That is not an upgrade plan for Sprint. It's simply a payment plan.

If you pay the remaining balance you will own the phone. With a lease, you make your payments for the agreed term, but they still own the phone and it has not necessarily been paid off. Sometimes you can purchase the phone by paying g the balance, but usually you will want a new device by that time.

Kinda odd 0.0 i'm in canada and if you upgrade before your 2 years are up you pay the rest of the phone and keep it (you can still bring it back for a discount on a new one ofc but at least you got the choice)

I traded in my iPhone 6 Plus and got a$150 credit toward my Galaxy S8+, so I only had to spend $30 at Verizon! This is the most awesome phone ever! So glad I switched from iOS to Android.

If it's a lease sprint owns the phone. That's why I only do installments, they may cost a bit more monthly. When my s8+ is paid off next month I will own it and then I can sell it which always yields more $ than trading it in.

I picked up an open item unlocked S8 for $537 yesterday from Best Buy. They had it marked at $637 but I had $100 in rewards points expiring soon. Store managers a friend and called when it became available.

A guy bought it, went outside and called Att from his original phone and came back in to return it before leaving the parking lot. Apparently Att told him it wouldn't work on their service so he bought an Att version. Box hadn't even been opened.
