I would think holding power for 10 seconds to bypass the safe shutdown still works.

He's trying to do it remotely since his ex actually posses the phone.

if so he mentions nothing about doing it remotely. I would think password/thumbprint would be enough to keep it locked and find my phone can even reset it if it is still on. No one WANTs to turn their phone off when its "lost".

you can just turn the phone off normally if the screen is locked.

From what OP says, he doesn't have possession of the phone. His ex has it and it sounds like he's trying to lock her out of it but can't get find my mobile or android device manager to work. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. Could OP clarify?

Could you clarify your situation? Do you have the phone and just can't get it unlocked? Or does your ex have the phone and you're trying to lock it down remotely?
