iMessage is a propriety app only available on Apple products (iPhones). You'll need to use a different messaging app for a Samsung Android device.

There are apps that contain "iMessage" in their title, but are simply glorified SMS/MMS apps with an iOS look to them. They interact with the true iOS iMessage no differently than other SMS apps.

Yes, read it. It requires an always - on Mac, running as a server, essentially forwarding messages. So, of no interest to me.

This may not be viable for everyone, but this is the first ever possible way to have iMessages on Android, if it works as described.

Plus, it has been attempted before. And article points out it is probably going to be short-lived which the young talented developer conceeds would likely happen.

Just a matter of when and how Apple disables it. And how Apple pushes out security updates and then no going back.

You're absolutely correct. It's jumping through hoops for very little gain. If iMessage access is very important to someone, they should simply switch to an iPhone, IMHO.

not to sound like an apple hater or anything because I have a MacBook and my kids use iPads

But why is iMessage so important to people? it always puzzles me

It's just a "little" bit better SMS client. Pictures and videos go thru faster cause it uses wifi...

I use my S8 to send videos and pics all day, I group chat with people that are on android and iOS in be same room and we all send messages and media just fine

I asked one of my friends this and he said "well on android you can't swipe thru pictures in the chat window or send more than 1 pic at a time with android and its very slow" so I picked 17 pictures and sent then to his iPhone with my amazing Verizon signal and they went to him within 2 seconds... then I swiped thru those 17 pics plus the other pics that was in the chat window days/weeks/months before that moment

I honestly think people just love the green/blue thing that shows "Hey! I'm an iOS user too!!!" is having a status that serious? lmao

FaceTime I could definitely understand but iMessage doesn't seem enough for me to stay on a certain cell phone. It has little surprise SMS and dance music and crazy things like that lmao really?

If I wanted an iphone, I would have one. I've always been a samsung gal and happy to be.
The reason I ask about imessage is my daughter has iphone, for that matter most all my family does. But for some reason my daughter has problems getting text from me. May just be her phone. So thought I'd ask if imessage would work on s8.
Its not so my text shows ios
I could care less about that.
    If I did, I wouldn't have my s8+.

THIS would have been perfect as opening to thread, and avoided the wild chase.

Someone had posted news on MacRumors about an imessage hack. Or moving from an iPhone and importing text history - what to know in advance. Also if leaving the iOS iMessage world.

Having phone, text, and FaceTime pop up on all your iDevices is handy or can be annoying. More the later when it first came out.

If there are specifics I'm sure people can offer personal ecperi edge, rather than what you saw here.

If you had a iPhone in the past, your phone number / email may still be connected to imessage. If it's your number, then you won't get a message from anyone on iPhone who messages you. If it's your email then you won't get a message from anyone on iPhone who may have your email saved in your contact with your email .

That is part of it. It's an ease of use thing, imessage is a secure messaging platform that still works over wifi if your data happens to be down etc. I wish google would take the steps to implement Duo into the android calling app so we have are own facetime type feature. Imessage on the other hand is just whatsapp for ios users, so they feel special using it or like you said gives em a status. Some younger people used to think if you had green bubbles / android you were poor lol, so sad
