    It has to be on T-Mobile for at least 40 days before you request the unlock.

    He can call 1-877-746-0909 and ask for an unlock code to be sent to him by email. See https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588

    Or try using the "Device Unlock" app in the T-Mobile folder.

    Which still requires 40 days of being on T-Mobile, it just makes requesting the unlock code easier.

    I have heard talking to tmobile support on Twitter (Tforce I believe) has usually yielded better results overall. Give that a try.

    T-Mobile is very responsive on Twitter. One of the reasons why I use Twitter alot more than Facebook.
