A few weeks ago I noticed my texts converting to MMS after only a few words (emojis seem to make this worse). Used to be able to send way over the 160 character limit with no issue. Problem is the message will send and be received but always displays "no subject" (where a regular text will always display the first few words). The receiver will have to actually open the message to see what it contains. I have two other S8s in the family and this issue doesn't happen on them. I compared settings on the known-good phones and they're identical. I did a factory reset on my phone this weekend and was unable yo fix the issue. Using the stock message app and keyboard, all software is up to date and identical to the other phones. I just want the stock app to work as it does on the other phones and as it did on my phone up until a few weeks ago.
Thanks in advance...
Anything over 160 ASCII characters (or 80 Unicode characters) or emojis in most cases, get sent as MMS or as multiple texts, depending on how you set your texting app. Check the "don't break messages" setting (or it might say something like "send long messages as MMS). The same model phone can be set differently.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the options you suggest do not exist in the stock messaging app. As stated, the three phones are configured exactly alike settings wise.

Under MultiMedia / Group Conversations settings you have send messages as group by default. Doesen't that setting send out all your texts in MMS by default? Try turning that off perhaps.
Unfortunately no effect but thanks for the idea. This one really has me stumped as I can find no difference between mine and the two known-good phones.
Yes, same thing either way. Rich communications is enabled on the good phones and they don't have the problem so I'm not sure that has anything to do with it
Unless you're on T-Mobile, RCS won't do anything yet. They're the only carrier that's implemented even just a small part of the RC protocol, and it has nothing to do with the problems you're having. (If it were all S8s, I'd guess that it's possible that Samsung has implemented the protocol incorrectly, but if 2 phones using the same app are sending out <160 characters messages as SMS, that's not it.)
I have this issue but I'm receiving them (my gf sends long texts).
"See more" shows at the end and when I click it it's just message details not the message to read all of it.. So then she has to copy/paste & send it via Snapchat instead
