Samsung S8 OTG connector does not fit with case

The OTG connector on my Samsung S8 is great, but it does not fit when I have my case on, since the USB-C part is short and the OTG connector is thick.

If I buy a USB Extension Cable, to connect my phone on one end the OTG on the other hand - will it still work?

That's your only option. I faced the same problem with the Pixel 2 in an Otterbox case - I bought a 5" long OTG cable on eBay for a couple of dollars and it's been working fine.
