Can not find various items explained in instructions

I"ve had this problem from day 1 with this phone.

I Google to find instructions on how to do something. I try to follow the instructions and I can't because the icon or area I'm told to select is not there.

I'm trying to find the "Visual Voicemail icon" and it's not there where it's supposed to be. It says to select and hold the 1 key from the dial pad. And then there is supposed to appear this little icon on the bottom left. Only it does not appear.

In other instructions I'm told to swipe up to view Apps, then scroll to and tap Voicemail. There is nothing in my Apps labeled Voicemail.

Welcome to Android Central! Visual Voicemail is typically an app specific to a carrier. Which carrier are you on, and did you get the phone directly from that carrier, or did you get it unlocked from somewhere else?
