Honestly the fixed fingerprint reader is worth it imho, if you can afford the upgrade.

If I were coming from an S8, I would probably wait for something else; but it depends on how much you value incremental changes. Some people want those small performance boosts.

For me, coming from an S7Edge, the change is bigger ... so seriously considering the S9+. Although, debating if I am going to hold off for the Note9 when it launches.

I have a Note 8. Which I got because the screen on the iPhone X wasn't big enough. I will not go for the S9. I will look at the Note 9. Though i also may get the iPhone X Plus or whatever they call it. I am just not crazy about the Samsung UI. My wife loves evrything about her Note 8. Cannot wait for the fall phone announcements...

I currently have a Galaxy S6 and was seriously considering going to the S8 by the end of last year, should I wait a little more until the first reviews are in and maybe go for the S9/S9+?

Is it really worth getting the S9 series over the S8 one given the price difference?

Well it's worth the upgrade if you have a passion for mobile photography like myself, but overall its the same thing from the inside and outside as well, but still, there is a way you can upgrade to s9 for less than 70 percent of the original price, sell your old s8 and add few 100s$ instead of $800, you will easily upgrade to s9 for less than $600

I think Camera is the only thing to consider for upgrading from S8 to S9.

I pulled the trigger from S8+ to an S9+. For me it fixes a lot of the "buts" the S8+ had when it came out. What I mean by "buts" is that I'd tell myself: "It's a good phone but it's missing (insert item here)" often enough to justify the upgrade.

    1. Dual cameras.
    2. 6 GB RAM.
    3. Fingerprint reader placement.
    4. Stereo speakers.

These were things other phones started coming out with and my S8+ lacked or shortcoming in the case of the FP reader. Planning to keep the S9+ for a couple years at least, I wanted to take care of those "buts" first. I realize it's not a drastic redesign or leap forward but it checks a few boxes the S8+ missed.

I have a GS7 that I am pretty happy with, but the battery could be better. How much better would the 9 be (given that it has the same battery as the 8) than the 7? I may consider upgrading at the end of this year when my 7 is paid off (I still owe 300 : (

The camera and CPU improvements are too minimal to justify spending another 900$. Waiting for the S10 would be a wiser choice as it's likely that its feature gap with the S8 would be wider while the price will stay about the same.

The placement of the fingerprint scanner and faster bio metrics might just be enough to convince some to make the switch.

This will be my first Samsung phone, but been using an Android phone for over a year now.

What tips and tricks should I know about when I get my S9+ in a few weeks?

I am not a fan of Samsung Icons, so i'm thinking of Nova Launcher or some sort of Icon changer app?

Any other tips to share that I should know about for a Samsung phone?

    Thank you,

That's your opinion. Mine is, if you have a yearly upgrade option on your plan & you have an S8/S8+, might as well use it.

    Thank you,
Samsung hard cord person here. Nova Launcher is AWESOME. I've attached a photo of my current Note 8 home screen.

Samsung Smart Switch is easy to backup your stuff and transfer to your new phone. For photos - I always just back those up to Google Photos.

Oh -did I say Nova Launcher?Lol. I have Nova launcher, a custom home screen, lock screen, and a separate custom "theme"that I use for backgrounds of messages, etc.

Run Sidesync with your PC as soon as possible. Doesn't matter if you never use it again. The point here is an insurance. Sidesync allows for no interaction mirroring to PC of the screen even when the phone is locked so you can use the PC to unlock it. Just plug and play. If you run it at once before. This provides a insurance measure in case the phone screen gets cracked and unresponsive. You can use your PC to get your stuff and reset the thing before sending it in for repair.

The camera with the variable aperture surely makes the case for the S9+ albeit at a steep price.
