Only had my S9+ since Saturday and I know battery often takes time to settle but I'm not impressed so far

My main issue though is overnight, I leave my phone on but in flight mode and aod off and last night it dropped 11%. Going to test again tonight but this seems excessive and no clues in battery stats (either stock or gsam)

    Anybody else experiencing this?

I assume you have AOD on? based on the S8plus and Note 8 a 1% drop per hour is not uncommon with AOD on.
Letting it settle out after a few days should also help.

Remember it takes the battery a few days to settle. And there is an update being sent out for all the issues for the peeps that got early devices. In south africa we got out devices on the 5 march. It will get better

Can you share your battery stats? It has to be an app draining the battery.

I am seeing very good battery life also on idle.

Try Wakelock Detector (see Wakelock detector with non-rooted phone if the phone isn't rooted.) If something is waking the phone all night, that can do it. Also a weak mobile signal (not in neil's case - his phone is in flight mode) drains more battery. And Play can be updating a lot of apps that have gotten updates since they were put on the phone (again, probably not in neil's case).

But most phones show "bad battery life" the first few charge cycles - it's the nature of lithium batteries.

What was your SOT at that point? There are a few apps that should not consume battery if not used.

It's a Samsung phone. I had The ill-fated Note 7, S7 Edge, and the S8+. The standby time was bad on all 3. Tried with and without AOD, all different kinds of settings, everything I could think of. One thing I figured out was that Samsung phones get better than average battery life during use, but standby has never been their strong suit.

The S8+ got better with time though after some Samsung updates. Keep an eye out for those.

Im thinking about doing the sd card backup via smart switch and then I'll put that sd card in my s9 plus. Will this cause issues?

As long as the battery last the whole day, I wouldn't complaint.
Let it sit on my wireless charger over night and woke up with 100% charged and ready for another day.

What I've been doing lately is turning it off at night it's not like we need it while sleeping unless it's used as your alarm

Dear friend thx for the tip. I had the same issue for 5 days now and today decided to make a reset as new since at 1st day I made from a back up. It looks like that my battery stats will be better under this new reset

Lol every new Samsung release this thread pops up. It's Samsung they all do that crap. A pixel on the other hand (for reference) does not.

Mine got even better with the update.

Overnight (7.5 hours) lost only 4% battery.

With a bit more of 50% battery left I already got 4 hours SOT. Where off half was on Wi-Fi and half 4G and my smartwatch connected all the time.

    This is the exynos S9+

I'm guessing people don't cycle the batteries anymore you got to fully charge it when it's brand-new Let It Die completely keep following this pattern for a couple days

I'm certainly no expert but I was under the impression that you shouldn't be letting modern lithium ion batteries die completely as it harms them? I thought they needed 'little and often' top ups to keep them healthy

Yes and no. You don't want to take a lithium battery below a certain voltage threshold. But phone manufacturers don't allow the phone to drain a battery to that point anyways.

Yeah I'm sure even when your battery shows 0% it's actually a few percent higher to allow for this. I'm just thinking of the issues a lot of people were having with the Note 8 and it bricking when people let the battery die.

Erm... My S9+ drops around 5%-8% when i sleep. 11% is a bit too much in airplane mode though. Did you close apps?
