Customization Services for an improved experience, can anyone explain what exactly this is? Should it remain on as it is for many apps by default?

I looked to find what "Customization" was about, and all I found was that they want to know everything about me, my phone, location, contacts, etc.. with my permission, but nothing as to what it does, how it helps me.???

It just allows apps (Samsung apps only, as far as I can tell) to use the name and profile picture associated with your Samsung account to personalize the experience a bit more. I turned it off, but don't see any reason to fear leaving it on.

A ton of concerning stuff in there IMO.

"Contacts and Communications Data. The Customization Service may access your contact list and may collect and analyze your incoming/outgoing call and text message history to provide you with services, such as to determine your relationships with others (e.g., your family and friends), who your most important contacts are, who contacts you most frequently and your preferred contact method; to display information about your important contacts (e.g., missed calls); and to find contacts you refer to while using voice recognition."

That alone is a huge no-no for me. But, I always had this off from day one..

The scary part is, say you know someone who has you as their contact.. and they accept these terms.. and they call/message you. You're info is still being collected, whether you want it to or not.

I think there should be a law where an individual user's choice MUST be honored.. so if YOU choose not to allow this "service", it should be unable to collect information about you even if another user who has you in their contacts chooses to allow it. It's a giant loophole that allows these data collectors to get around you personally opting out.

Use package disable pro & disable it! It's another google esk tentacle that goes thru your phone in order to make them more $$$ through targeted advertising. If you're ok with all that then leave it.

This does not prevent Samsung capturing your data through your contact's usage of it, as I outlined in my example.

Okay, well I was not aware that this even A) existed and, perhaps more troubling, B) that it was on by default. I'm usually pretty good about scouring the Settings - searching out fun/weird options hidden in the nooks and crannies - but this rather robust Dirt Devil of privacy invasion escaped my notice until I happened to notice mention of it in the Samsung Gallery app settings (I've literally never used the stock Gallery). So I would say "it's not like they're not telling you" isn't quite accurate. How exactly I was opted-into this carnival of data sucking grotesquery, I don't know but I do know I certainly wasn't TOLD. And it was a helluva lot easier for them to gain access to and then gobble up all this information than it will be for me to un-*** it from them.
