'System and apps' usage over 4GB with no recent apps

I have a galaxy s9+ and I've noticed that after a few days of not restarting my phone, the 'System and apps' usage in Device Maintenance > Memory gets super high. Over 4GB even when I have no apps open under my recent apps. (I clicked the recent apps button and 'close all'). Any tips or advice on this? This just seems like memory leak to me, and it tends to make my phone more laggy.

Edit, a bit more detail on my phone:
model: SM-G965U1 (6GB, 64GB)
purchased: about 3 months ago
updated to latest version of all software available to me (android 8.0.0, etc)

Edit2: I tried not using chrome (switching to samsung browser) that didn't change anything either

I tried the 'clean now' option but it doesn't really do much, this is before 'clean now':

hmmm im not the kind of person who would start a convo with HAVE YOU TRIED SAFE MODE bla bla lol.

jokes aside.even with no apps running in the apps tray there might still be apps running in the background(thats why there is an option to turn of background activity)

thats just my opinion though.

The way i understand is, those 2GB memory is called idled mem, that's the way android op reserves for each app.. another word , if you run a heavy game , os will take back those mem to run it ..
so, you have nothing to worry .
BTW..Clean system cache and device maintenace once in a while to keep it fresh .. :)

Thanks, I'll try the system cache thing. When this happens though, my phone seems to be really laggy and slow. If it is actually running out of ram, that could be a good reason for the slow-down, since it's off-loading onto main storage whatever extra is taking up ram (e.g. an app I open). And that usually slows down a phone.

edit: hm, maybe I can monitor the main storage to see if that's the case

In my experience, the single biggest memory hog is Chrome. See how much RAM remains as long as you hold out on launching Chrome.

Yes, when you open chrome, but Andoid will take it back for whatever you're running.. that's how all OS works.. storage is the 1 you should worry..
And that's why I DON'T use chrome ..
Default Samsung browser is the best IMO .. :)

Well, looks like the best option is to do a factory reset..
Start fresh.. see if it fixes it ..
If not. Contact Sam or bring it back to the store ..!

Personally I just restart my phone every morning when I wake up. Every device I have used including pixel and iPhone gets a little laggy after a few days if I don't restart it.
