    Hi.

What wifi speeds is the galaxy S9 plus capable of. I have Gigabit broadband and the max speed I can get on the 5Ghz is 160mbps.
Provider supplied router not the best

Will I get much higher speeds if I upgraded my router or purchased a wireless access point connected to 1gb LAN port and access point capable of 1300mbps on 5Ghz?

    Thanks

What speeds are you paying for from your ISP?

Upgrading your router, since that's your limiting point, ac wifi should go up to 1.3gbps, but if your provider is only giving you gigabit speed, that's the most you can get, except for phone to something else on the LAN. But what you get for downloads - that depends on the server you're downloading from and your path to it. It the download gets from the server to your provider at 5mbps, the individual packets will get to you at 1gbps, but there will be huge holes of silence between packets. Np matter what you do, your download speed will be 5mbps. A download is as fast as its slowest portion.

My S9+ on Asus RT-AC68U 5Ghz can push ~600Mbps up and down.

My Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 pulls 900 or so down with no issues.

I believe that the S9 is 2-stream, so is "limited" to 867Mbps on 5GHz. Generally you don't get the theoretical maximum, though. So a 3-stream router (1.3Gbps) isn't going to help your 2-stream (867Mbps) phone over a 2-stream router.

If you have other 3-stream devices, though, it will help them.

    You are mistaken.
I have the Exynos version and I keep it only on 5Ghz.

My WiFi has a SSID for 2.4Ghz and one for 5Ghz.
If I setup the same SSID for both 2.4 and 5Ghz, it will connect most of the time to 2.4 no matter if I am sitting near the router.
So, setup a separate SSID for 5Ghz is the answer.
