    I have just had a new S9 64gb coming from a S7.
It says total GB used is 16gb and just under 12gb is system.
I only have around 10 apps i have installed and a few pictures i have taken like 5 and the rest are on the cloud off my S7.
I still have 48gb left on internal storage but why 12gb for system, cache is cleared.
I don't really want to do a restore as only just got it sorted with apps and stuff.
Do hope someone can shine a bit of light onto this.
    Thanks

From what I can find on the web, it looks like that's normal. Remember, it's not just the OS that's taking up that 12 GB -- it's also bloatware, which Samsung is still famous for. The OS itself usually takes about 4-5 GB itself.

12 is normal. It's been years since Android was small, and when phones had 16 or 32GB.

Why have it and not use it? You've also got 6GB and using ~3.5GB memory.

I nuke a few like Facebook, games, Chrome. If I need Chrome I use Dev version. Right now Internet is using 900MB.

Pie is best on a clean system. Sometimes even the restore when first setup can have issues depending. And its beta. I had to factory reset during Oreo last year more than once but Pie seems well behaved.

And cache has nothing to do with system. They're on different partitions, and "system" in the report is only showing the system partition (which also has apps that were installed as system apps). Remember also - there's a whole Linux system in there. Android is really just a program that runs on Linux, which is the operating system on Android phones.

You typically can't delete those apps unless you root the phone. If you're not an advanced user, I'd recommend against it, because if you delete something that's important, you might render the phone unsuable.

Ok Diddy thanks for that info as i will just leave them.
I will just leave it as it is just was seeing if i can just make that bit extra space or i was doing something wrong in the setting.

For bloatware apps, you can try disabling them in the Settings>Apps menu. Select one of the apps and see if there's a Disable button. This will revert the app to its factory version (which in itself can save some space, since updated versions are usually bigger), and will also prevent the app from opening in RAM.
