I just switched from Verizon to AT&T and got new S9. ATT informs me that they do not support visual voicemail for Android . Is there a good after market app for voice to text??

    Well they do.

Open the Phone app. Ensure that the keypad is showing. Notice the envelope in the bottom left just to the left of the call button.

The app is there, but ATT says they do not have software that will work on android phones!
Spent an hour in the store yesterday with them consulting the support Dept.

It works just fine for me.

    Are you having some issue?

If you bought from AT&T otherwise no, and same goes for WiFi calling.
If you bought unlocked and just using ATT SIM out of luck it seems.
I have ATT Note 9, ATT iPhone X, and unlocked S9+ with just ATT SIM card.

I bought AT&T phones direct from Samsung. Visual Voice Mail and Wifi calling work just great.

That is true for only AT&T versions of the phone. If you buy the unlocked (non branded) or take a branded version from another carrier, you can't get AT&T visual voice mail or Wi-Fi calling. That is the reason I eventually left AT&T for T-mobile. Within a few minutes of putting a T-mobile Sim in my unlocked phone, it downloaded an update which enabled both Wi-Fi calling and installed a visual voicemail app.

There is an apk of AT&T visual voicemail at one of the apk download sites (do some searching) but it was not a good app when I used it. It frequently failed to detect voicemail until you launched the app and refreshed it.

That's what one would think. However according to this thread https://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...?highlight=vvm it is possible to get them working on an unlocked device.

I bought what I thought was an unlocked phone that was actually locked to Sprint. I unlocked it and popped my Att Sim card in and started using it. At first it was still with the Sprint font but the phone downloaded a couple quick updates. After the last one it asked me to restart the phone so I did. When it booted up it was all Att and had downloaded all the Att apps like I bought it locked, down to the Att splash screen. Visual Voicemail and wifi calling work just fine.

I had an AT&T VV app that I had to find as an apk and installed, in order to get voice transcription (older app). Once the S9 updated to pie, this app stopped working. I cannot find where the VV that comes with the phone will give me transcription, nor any other option. I have an AT&T phone. Any ideas?

AT&T visual voicemail doesn't normally give a text version. It simply allows you to see who called and play them back in any order you desire.

I updated my Unlocked S9+ phone to Pie yesterday. This morning Samsung, from its own store, pushed a Voicemail application. After rebooting I have visual voicemail again.
If you got your phone from AT&T, it should have the application. Is your phone from AT&T? Do you have AT&T applications?

Yes, I have ATT and I have VV. However, as the original poster asked, how can I get voice to text transcription in order to read my voicemails? I used to have that with ATT VV, no longer. I now use Google Voice and use call forward so if I don't pick up, Google Voice gets the call and it will transcribe the vm.

The original poster asked directly about VVM. Then asked about 3rd party apps for voice to text transcription. I have used AT&T phones for more than 10 years and IME the Visual Voicemail never did voice to text transcription. [Edit] But apparently this is offered on some phones. Well he asked yes about app for "voice to text?" and I had this in my AT&T VVM until the Pie update. It was an AT&T app I've used since my Blackberry days, and was in Google Play when I got my S9. It did say it wouldn't work with my phone, so I side loaded it which worked fine until Pie. Unfortunate because I would rather not have to go through Google Voice, but there you have it.
