    Hi all,

I recently upgraded to the Samsung S9 and while I absolutely love this device, the battery performance is quite frankly disappointing. In a typical day I find that the battery is empty around 5pm after plugging it out of the charger at around 9am. Is this the standard of this phone's battery?

This morning I plugged it out at 8am while it was at 70% and at around 2pm it was sitting on 11% with about 2 hours of screen on time.

How long should the S9 battery usually last with moderate usage?

    Your input is much appreciated.

There's no "standard", it's fully dependent on usage, but it's standard that a new phone will use a little more battery as it updates apps that have changed since it was packaged. And the battery itself doesn't fully settle down for about a week.

"Moderate usage" means ... charging it to 100%, then using it until it shuts off? Or charging it to 95% and plugging in the charger when it drops to 40%? Sending a few texts? Or being on the phone for a few 10 minute calls? Having the screen set to 20% or 100%? Having the screen to stay on as long as possible or to shut off after 30 seconds of non-use? There are too many possibilities for "standard" to mean anything.

But a full work day is something that some people can only wish for.

I had bad battery life experiences with my LG V10 and my BB KEYone. So when I decided to move to Galaxy S9, I chose the S9+ despite its size.

Now I've grown used to its size, and the battery life overall is really, really good. I might even say it got better with Android 9. I can go a whole 24 hours sometimes and still have 25-30% battery left. A full work day, I get EVERY day no matter what.

And the Galaxy S10+, according to that video, will be the reigning champ of battery life.

But as you said, it depends on usage.

Some of that usage, one might not even know about. Maybe a rogue app. I'm sensitive to the heat of the phone; if I think it's running hot, I restart it to kill whatever processes started going wild. That happens every now and then to my phone, and it happens every 2-3 weeks to my MacBook Pro that I otherwise never shut off. The bottom will get hot and the fans will start running, and that's my cue to restart.

Some people will tell you, if you're not happy with battery life, to do a factory reset and be very careful about what apps you put back on it, at least to start.

Thanks for the feedback. By moderate usage, I mean listening to Spotify on my daily commute, browsing the web for a few minutes, sending a few whatsapp texts, perhaps playing the odd game for about 30 minutes and taking a picture or two.

I will say however that I have noticed a general improvement over the last day or so. Not sure if the battery is still "settling in" as was mentioned before. It's also not as hot as before.

Does anyone know what a safe operating temperature is for the battery and if there are any good apps out there to monitor these stats?

Luckily there is quick charge to save the day should the need arise.

The battery is poor and it helps if you disable as many things as possible and use the black theme. To me it lasts long enough on moderate use but if I use it too much... I'll be in trouble. I uninstall all apps I rarely use, disable all background activity, notifications, messages, etc. My phone is one week old and already suffering with the battery.
