    I recently changed from a S6 to a S9 phone. It is a SM-G960U from Spectrum.

My needs and taste in phones is much simpler than the state of the art, this phone is making me crazy with all the Bixby, Google, and Samsung apps that are on it. They are nearly all things I'll never use...

I know how to turn off or disable apps but many of these seem to turn themselves back on or ignore my choices.

Is it practical to change to other versions of the Android OS to get a less complicated interface?

And if you do that, can the OS that came on the phone be restored?

Any suggestions or links will be appreciated.

Unfortunately the same OS is standard across the world and it is crammed with bloatware, there are no variations. If you root the device you will gain full control allowing you to permanently delete what you consider unnecessary. This does invalidate your warranty and there is a danger of turning your phone into an expensive paperweight. I've been off the scene for a while so I don't know if the device is Root able. The "go to" place is xda forums for more info.

Samsung phones have Easy Mode which makes the interface very plain and simple. You can also download a launcher to change things the way you want. They have a app in the play store called Package Disabler that can turn off alot bloat like bixby but you have to pay for it which isn't much for what it can do. If you have more questions don't hesitate to bask me just tag my name so I Know.

Thanks for the reply, the Package Disabler sounds like a good start for me, and I'll look at the Easy Mode too.

Is is possible to change the OS on android phones to try another OS and then restore the original later? Much like changing from Windows to Linux and then coming back to Windows?

Or even booting with two systems on the phone and and choosing one of the two OS versions at startup?

That last method is what worked for me to shift from Windows to Mint Linux, I'm very unlikely to ever buy or even use Windows again...

Thanks for your reply too, I need to figure out the rooting thing. I'm thinking my phone could stand to be rooted too...

Rooting is pretty easy if you follow directions and take your time.

I don't think there's a root available for USA version s9 but can check XDA forums .they have lock bootloader.

Edit: if it does , get familiar how to flash back to stock if you run into issues, most forget this step .
