Welcome to Android Central! Just curious -- how are you making calls on a Tab A? Is it a VoIP call, like on Google Voice? That tablet doesn't have telephony, so it wouldn't be a standard voice call like on a phone.

My tablet was purchased on Ebay it's an 8" tablet fa unlocked connected it on metro by tmobile and it already had the phone app just like any phone with its own mobile numbers I just go to the phone icon and call even receive the every day robot calls didn't know it was capable myself until i had it connected I've tried watching YouTube videos to solve the problem the only problem is, is that they all tell me to disable the talk back but it's not on my tablet at all so I've been going through everything on my tablet but nothing yet the phone app itself has nothing to disable the feature on the three dots except c forward block call and vibrate while ringing...so it's back to the drawing board

I moved this to the Tab A forum for more specific traffic.

I think the issue is that you're making phone calls on a device that doesn't have a proximity sensor (because tablets weren't designed to be phones). If a device doesn't have a proximity sensor, then it has to do something to prevent your face from pressing buttons on the screen when you hold it up to your ear for a call. The typical way to avoid this is to lock the screen when you're on a call, requiring you to double tap the screen to unlock it during the call so you can press anything else.

I'm still not sure how you're making calls. As far as I know, tablets with true telephony were only available in Europe a while back, but I could be wrong.

I assume you are correct in the lock being there to avoid my face hitting any button but the problem is that i unlock the damed thing and it locks right back up example i try typing during a call and as soon as I hit one letter it's locked again and it does this for everything I do and how the phone even works is beyond me but it is true telephony that can't be uninstalled or even disabled I also tried to see if i can uninstall it and reinstall it to try and fix this issue but it's a built in app that can't be deleted or disabled I even checked the special permissions and all the apps access and nothing...

I am having this exact same problem. I have A 2019 Samsung Tab A SMT-295 and I have a SIM card in from Airtel here in Uganda. I see no option in settings called "talkback" or anything in Accessibility or in the settings for the Phone app.

Warren, as I mentioned in another reply here, I am having the same problem, but it looks like it is not exactly the same problem. When I start a call, I have to double-tap to unlock the screen like you mentioned. However, with the call ongoing, I can then navigate to another app and start typing and the screen does not lock.

My lock screen settings is set to NONE, so I am wondering if this might be the difference?

Interesting -- I did find some official support pages for the Tab A on Telstra about phone calls, but it doesn't specify if the calls are being made over telephony or VoIP: https://mobilesupport.telstra.com.au...r/make-a-call/.

In any case, I suspect that this problem is due to an oversight on the Samsung developers, who didn't really think much about using the tablet as a phone. Since there's no proximity sensor you can disable, the only thing I can think of would be to contact Samsung support or send feedback. Sorry!

As a workaround, you could launch Keep Screen On, from the Playstore, before making a call.

According to GSMArena, the T295 has:

    2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100
    4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 17(700), 20(800), 28(700), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)

and a Snapdragon 429, which would indicate a US market. The T-290 is WiFi-only. (https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gal...2019)-9760.php)

Right, but I always thought that these tablets that are capable of mobile data only used those bands for data, not non-VoIP calls.
